It is a good mod, amongst a great deal of other good mods for Doom. I enjoyed playing it a few years ago.

But I got bored of it after not long, and went back to the normal game. I much prefer mods that just add new maps, over gameplay changers.

I like Doom 1, EP4 is rather underwhelming however.

Doom 2 has a good first EP and terrible everything else. Like really terrible.

I've only played Evilution of the Final Doom pack, and while it's overall better than Doom 2, it drags too much and most of the levels are garbage.

i love brutal doom as a mix between duke 3d gameplay, but i disable the hud blood/crack effects. also spicing up the weapons and improving the ai are great additions. its a shame its become the norm to hate brutal doom because it got popular.

It's a good mod. I hate the reloading though cause it kills the pace, but v20 has a classic mode that gets rid of that shit.

Plus the creator Sgt.Mark ain't bad. Made a comment on the Zdoom forums that pissed people off but it was something I see daily here at 4chan

In terms of overall balance I think it's fine. When you really need something to die, RIGHT NOW, you use the sniper rifle or the nailshotgun. When you need to blow up a whole crowd of things, you can charge up your fists or grenades, or put the pulse rifle in shock mode. The autoshotgun is pest control.

The one situation where I have to concede your point is right after a pistol start in maps with no hitscanners, so you have no ammo and you're punching everything to death. The autoshotgun is not a lot of help there even if you can keep it loaded. But most maps have spawn points for some other beefy weapon so it's usually not a big deal.
