Pic related. I never understood the appeal of Mega Man. I've actually tried to play several of the games - Mega Man & Bass, X6, the Zero series. None of them clicked with me. The only game that seemed kind of interesting was Legends.

why didnt you play the games that were most liked?
The only Retro Megaman games that sold more than one million units are Megaman 2, 3 and Megaman X.
2 and 3 in particular have a terrific classic soundtrack, that is why there are shitloads of covers of them on youtube.

I think the games are great experiences the first time you play them, but I also think the games have little replayability.
I dont know if a random generated Metroid would be possible.

>"But Anon, you played the worst of the series"

I had no way of knowing that. I just played whatever games I could get my hands on at the time. i.e. Whatever my friends owned.

I also briefly played a few of the Game Boy titles. I'm not sure if they're ports of the NES series, or completely original games. Either way, I didn't care much for them.

Since I never owned any Mega Man titles growing up, there's no nostalgia value for me. Maybe if I had been exposed to the games during my childhood, I would feel differently about them. Experiencing them for the first time in my late 20s and early 30s didn't leave me with much of an impression.

If you didn't like the games you've played, you definitely won't like the original NES series - they're the same formula as the games you've played already but with less features since they were the original games. Never played Mega Man & Bass so can't comment on it.

Try playing the classic games and X series - feel free to drop the series after X5 though, you aren't missing out on much.

Anyway I just can't get into Alundra, it feels like a piss-poor clone of ALTTP (which I didn't think much of to begin with) with a story that tries way too hard to be tragic and quite possibly the worst platforming in any game I've ever played. That's just my take on it, anyway.

I won't deny those faults, and it's by no means one of my favorite games. I mostly enjoyed the exploration, resource management, and feeling of isolation. Traversing a dungeon is pretty tense when you have limited light sources, limited healing, no allies, and no idea how much further it goes.

Certain appeal of Metal Gear Solid is timeless, but other aspects you had to live it during the era. It's not a shallow game, but on the surface, it was mind blowing cinematic experience (cinematic in a positive way) that aligned itself with the push of the PS1.
