Not saying it's not a game that's often remembered, but I noticed this past week or two a lot of posts saying how SOR2 was the greatest single BESTEST beat em up EVER MADE and there's NO OTHER CONTESTANT, etc.

It's great and probably one of the best, but seeing this thread and the other threads I've seen praising SOR2 like that makes me think it's either 1 fanboy going all out, or a Youtuber recently made a special video, which causes a similar fanboy effect on young people.

It's been a while since I've played it, I do remember the spawn mutants now. I should've have said "feels more like a fighting game compared to other beat 'em ups", because of the restricted 2D plane of movement. Didn't it have a diverse moveset for a beat 'em up? If I remember correctly there were different moves for each direction, I think even the diagonals giving you access to kicks and stronger punches.
I think I'll try to find my box and give it another play to jog my memory.
