good game OP, the sequel DBZ III is also good, you fight Cooler and his minions, the androids and then Cell (only his first form since the sotry haven't reach the Cell Game then).

>>2646331
also pretty good

My favorite DBZ game ever is Super Butoden 2.

I like the roster, although in story mode you can only play as Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo and Trunks, you can also play as Zangya, Boujack, Cell and Cell Jr on VS/tournament mode, and also Son Goku and Broly are unlockable through a code. In total it's 10 characters and I like how some of them are so weird and uncommon compared to other DBZ games of the time (Zangya, Boujack, Cell Jr, Broly).
The European version of the game has Goku from the start though, no code needed.

Came to post this. I never get tired of this game, you need to look up the controls though. I wish there was a remake or something, but they'd probably butcher Yamamoto's score because they would probably think it was plagiarized from somewhere. Idiots.

At least the SNES game had some non-linear story and game over cut-scenes, not many games have those.

Agreed, the whole plagiarism stigma he has is very stupid, especially considering how you can always find melodies stolen from older music. At this point there isn't a thing as an "original melody" anymore.
Yamamoto is an arranger first and foremost anyways. He simply took some melodies he liked and made his own personal arrangement. One of the alleged plagiarized tracks of his is the Cell theme from Super Butoden 2, which has the same bassline intro with a Pink Floyd song, the track then changes a lot though, it's not a total ripoff, and it sounds damn good.
The new version of Super Butoden 2 for 3DS has a different soundtrack. I feel bad for the people who will play the game for the first time without the original OST.

>> No.2648478

>>2648464

Not an excuse, as far as I know the guy himself admitted to have plagiarized other songs, but his works were really good regardless if a bunch of his songs (from the many he composed) had melodies from other songs he liked. Disregarding his entire work for something that is actually more common than you'd think is pretty stupid.

I think it's silly to disregard his entire work for something like that, yes.
Although I'm not excusing him for doing what he did. He could have avoided it completely, which would be optimal, or do like most people do and steal from more obscure artists instead of popular ones.

Anyway from what I have heard most of the better Dragon Ball games are fighters which is a genre I don't really care about. So what are some of the better Dragon Ball games that aren't fighters and are there any really shitty ones that I should avoid?

As far as /vr/ goes, the game in OP and its sequel are good if you enjoy RPGs and don't mind random encounters. They use a card-based battle system.

I like how in Dragonball Z 3, they just stop using power levels. It's like they knew it wouldn't make sense to use them during Cell.

The music was always really good in those RPGs too, especially the boss themes. You knew shit was about to go down.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qt6YoHpp0QM

I mean, people make fun of Raditz for having a power level of only 1500, but 1500 was a monstrous number. It took me a few hours of grind before I could even dare to challenge him. It does give you a sense of just how fucking strong Raditz was for Goku and Piccolo when they first fought him.

And let's not get even started on Vegeta's 18000 bp.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Unh5vAvab8s

It was hell.

Super Butoden 2 has a code for turbo speed, and also the meta of the Butoden games is in the split screen mechanic, using L and R to dash, charging ki and throwing powers to your opponent, and pulling off meteor combos if they get too close. They're not traditional fighters.
Hyper Dimension is more like Street Fighter and the like.

is the SNES one just a remake of these? Or just uses the same/similar battle system?

I emulated this years back, before there were English translations. I really enjoyed it, even if I did get stuck on Namek not knowing what to do because there were 2 namek children you had to find. I was going by my knowledge of the anime which wasn't up to goku on Namek.
When I found a guide, I was so over powered, I took down Frieza's first forms easily.

I found this but it seems it's unfinished and not very good, and the patch must be applied on the french version

Super Butoden 2 was actually going to be released in english officially, under the title "Dragon Ball", but it seems Ban Dai cancelled it because DBZ still wasn't too known in the US back in 1995.
They still should have released it for the latin american market though.
