So for no reason at all, I went into the Stone Age scenario in RCT2, and bought all available land and leveled the entire park.
After about a million dollars, this is the end result.
Apparently there are a few spots of land unavailable for purchase.

So I did get it, played the first scenario and so far I have to say I'm impressed. Strangely enough I find building scenery way less frustrating than in RCT3. The UI is miles ahead of RCT3's clusterfuck. The only things I miss from RCT3 are the on-ride camera and the higher resolution. Speaking of which, is there any way to play RCT2 at 1920x1080 or in windowed mod ?

So I noticed one of the canyon colabs is close, but not quite, finished. I'm tempted to go and finish off the last section, since the rest of it got uploaded. Here's my initial idea for the unused chunk. Going to have a ghost train in the keep (purple area), a flat ride or two down in the lower area, a looping coaster that goes through and over the walls, and off on the little unused split of the starting area I'm going to make a little siege camp. Paint.NET.

RCT2 only uses 256 colors, so it only needs to allocate 8 bits per pixel. Adding more colors requires more bits, and adding alpha nearly doubles the bit requirement.

Standard is 1 byte per channel, so a raw image with full transparency support is 32 bits.

Portable Network Graphics (PNG) don't map raw color data to pixels. Instead, they use a color palette, where each color is assigned an index number. Then each pixel is mapped to an index number.

Think of it as those coloring books that had the numbers in them, but on a pixel level.

And the interior of the ghost train. Since RCT is bad at doing dark rides, I kinda came up with a story for the ride in my head. The riders are visiting the castle, but the king is acting strange. You see in the pic how it doesn't let me place the ride? I'd move the camera around to to find out why, but the ride moves with the camera, making it impossible to find out why. IIRC it doesn't work like that in vanilla RCT2, only OpenRCT2. Just wondering if there's a way to fix that or if I'm remembering RCT2 wrong.

It's because there isn't any space to place the ride, as there are things like the path and the trees that is blocking it's placement.

As well, you can zoom out the camera to help place the much prefab rides.

Yeah, it probably would, but the place has been a pathing nightmare so I wouldn't be able to do that now. My rating keeps tanking because of trash being dumped in annoying to reach places, there's tunnels fucking everywhere inside.

>>2662850
I built it myself, but I think I ruined it in the end. I tried to fit as much as possible and the junior coaster and the trees I think ruin it. The whole medieval set is a fucking nightmare to work with, it looks like absolute ass in most cases since there's no space to put pieces next to each other and towers are annoying as fuck to build. It looks far better than the normal castle set, though. If there's anything I get rid of it'll be the trees. They don't really look right there but I had to fill the space with something.

The park is Elwynn Forest found in the /vr/ct pack of stuff.

There are tons of "repackaged, improved" versions of old games that are not retro.

Fuck you and fuck the mod for raping the very concept of /vr/. Mod, if you're not going to uphold THE FUCKING RULES OF THE BOARD YOU ARE MODERATING, YOU SHOULD NOT BE A FUCKING MOD.

You'll probably need to set the mode to powered launch... i'm not sure if its different with openrct.

>> No.2666162

>>2666098
You need to build a full circuit of wooden coaster track, even if it is just a simple loop back to the station, missing out a single track piece where you would normally merge onto the looping track. Then you merge onto the looping track looping track into it as you would normally, and merge the end of the looping track back in.

What I wouldn't give for the scenery saving thing from RCT3 right now. It looks like ass I think so I might just bulldoze it.

>>2666162
Thanks, but I gave up in the end. Couldn't be arsed with that so just built a lift hill. The slight differences in track between wild & spinning wild mice is real fucking annoying. Also,

>no squeaky doors

I wish the spinning mouse had banked sprites. Would be nice to have the modern version.

When I was building that monstrosity above, all I wished for was steep lift hills. I don't know how much the openRCT guys can do, but I hope they can add a few things like that. Not like it's hard to turn the sprite 30 degrees.

Can you post a picture? 80 seconds sounds kinda short considering how slow they are. Do you have ramps, turns, drops, etc? Scenery increases the excitement, too.

I already deleted it. Going to try a longer ride, will post back with results.

Any of you use railroads as gentle rides instead of transports? They can get up to high excitement in around a 8x10 footprint of garden.

281m yields a 2.90 ride. I bet the cut-off point for too short is either 200 or 250m.

Car rides have this little sweet spot where they jump in excitement. I think they have to be at least 1.5 minutes long.

How many squares of 4x4 do you let handymen work? I usually do 9 + 2 tiles where 2 handymen overlap each other.

>> No.2666838

Anyone find a workbench they like that doesnt totally abandon vanilla content? I'm looking at Xtreme and Louis and they just feel kinda shitty. There's a severe lack of matching diagonal pieces for walls and fences, and the selection of them in general is a little lacking without the vanilla stuff. It just generally feels like theres a lot missing.

SCIENCE TIME!

I initially thought it was based off the time, rides longer than 1:30 getting the boost, but as you can see here one gets the boost while being under 1:30, so it has to be length. From my own testing, 655ft or 200m seems to be the cutoff point. The ride seems to get a 2.3 or more excitement boost by being that long, which is huge. Before that boost, there's not much difference (less than 0.05 E) between a large car ride and one that goes in a tiny circle. So make your car rides either micro-sized, or at least 200m long.

Another fun fact is how one can have track cross over itself via disabling clearance checking, allowing someone to do pic related.

Tried my hand at making a scenario, based around using coasters which are vehicle-themed, and I would like to see if anyone's willing to playtest it to see how well it works:

They actually don't, instead they clip through eachother, as the game doesn't consider them to be colliding.
