These would have been my picks. Something about the Genesis just feels so nostalgic. Maybe because it was more popular in the US so they geared more of the games to our culture? Even Sonic feels very rooted in the 90's to me.

Is it bad that I can't really notice any crucial difference between the 00s and the 10s?
The only thing that comes to mind is that the 00s had the pseudo-beatles haircut with the fangs to the side thing and the 10s has the "cupcake" haircut with short hair below and big puff of hair above.

No, it's not bad, because it's true. There are no real differences any more, because our cultures have stagnated.

Chalk it up to the internet, to globalization, to whatever, but we have become homogenized to utter mediocrity.

Though it is interesting to me to think about the differences from say, the 1890's to 1915, the way technology advanced then being similar to now and how maybe another Great War is what we need, perhaps, to find ourselves again.

That was just a normal show like any other when I was a kid. It wasn't until I caught a rerun of it 5 years ago that I went "Holy shit, this is 90s as fuck!" Give it another 10 years and you'll be able to distinguish the 00s from the 10s quite easily.

The Internet totally went to shit in the past 10 years. It used to be you could browse most sites without javascript, which gave a lot of freedom in selecting the web browser you wanted to use (I alternated between text mode Lynx and Links-2 in graphical mode, and occasionally Opera). Now you're basically stuck using one of the big name browsers, or you can't even view most sites correctly. On top of that, they get more bloated every year, so you need a fast machine with lots of memory even to do really basic stuff (which is just plain retarded, and not at all any kind of "progress"). Also, complicated and lots of code = more security holes and botnet. Everything about the Internet is a fucking joke now.

As a general rule, I'd say you can only really comment on and make comparisons between era's at least a decade ago. For instance, you could meaningfully compare the early-mid 2000's to the 90's, but comparing the former to today is shaky ground.

On a side note, the present will always appear to be a period of cultural mediocrity because it takes time for classics to be noticed as such. When it comes to culture, your immediate surroundings are the hardest thing to see.

>> No.2654973

>>2651974
>Left-leaning beliefs

Eh, American politics has cyclical tendencies, so much of the general trend can be attributed to everybody hating Bush.

The particular manifestations, especially on the internet, are a much more interesting matter. Group polarization is a well-documented phenomenon, and the internet accelerates it as everyone goes off into echo chambers, causing more Tumblr and /pol/ types. The former is more powerful because the far-right was viewed with greater disgust than the far-left well before the current situation, whatever the reasons for that may be.

I guess it's true that you can't notice differences while you're living through the changes.

Anyway, what's the trademark of the 00s? what will be the stereotypes of the 00s? Right now, we're going through a 90s nostalgia rushdown because 90s kids are now in their 20s, so in about 5 or 10 years we should be having 00s nostalgia...
