I finished super metroid recently, needless to say how much i liked it. Is there anything similar? I heard Symphony of the night is supposed to be equal in terms of quality. Is that true?

Nope. Worse level design and even easier due to the RPG elements. You easily overlevel any boss.
But it looks and plays decent enough. Exploration is fun.

Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night represent a turning point in adventure platformers, so much so that the genre became known as "metroidvania" from that point on and yes, SoTN and other Igavanias are more casualized than Super Metroid. You'll get more polished streamlined experiences if you follow the genre forward from the midpoint you discovered, more primitive punishing experiences if you follow it backward.

OP needs to ask himself which it's gonna be.

Recently beat it on cola, very good game although I had a bit of trouble not because of stats rather because of enemies and level design which worsens when you getting the inverted castle.
By all means it isn't a bad game at all, far from it, just be aware that except for a boss or two, a couple rooms (particularly the clock tower section), and the inverted castle, it's pretty easy. I also don't know the consensus on /vr/ with the high version to play, but Xbla version has no slowdown or loading times, but lack the extra content of the Japanese version, this includes the Saturn version which I believe had 2 new areas although I hear that game has bad slowdown even though it's a 2D game on the Saturn.

SotN was a good game, exploration is fun, control is tight, great music, graphics, and atmosphere.

My biggest issue with it is that the first half of the game is incredibly well designed, areas are really fun to traverse and explore, once you get to the second half the platforming just doesn't work properly, and the whole experience is more tedious than fun.

However once you've finished it once, you can play as Richter, and it's fucking perfect.

>once you get to the second half the platforming just doesn't work properly, and the whole experience is more tedious than fun.

I finished SotN for the first time recently and this was exactly my experience. Loved the first half, couldn't put it down. Second half was more of a map-filling chore.

Difficulty-wise unbalanced as fuck.

First 3/4 of the first half was a decent challenge I thought actually, but the rest was mostly a cake walk with the odd well-fuck-that corridor. Almost all the bosses were too easy and you can kill them whilst taking numerous hits without ever grinding.

Oh yeah, fuck that track. The second castle had hardly any music diversity, so while you're traversing platforming sections that require high jumping and bat-form, you're also listening to the same 3 or 4 tracks over and over.

The game really should have just ended with the first castle, which most people beat in about 6 or 7 hours. Playing through the game as Richter is better overall IMO, tighter experience.

SOTN and Aria of Sorrow are pretty good, if easy. Aria's castle is better to explore since at least the real game doesn't begin with a rehashed reverse castle.

Harnony of Dissonance is really good, more challenging since you play a classic whip Belmont, and has a great styke6

Order of Ecclesia is great and will kick your ass if you play it like the others, since you actually need to learn boss patterns. I feel it's the best out of the ones mentioned

All that hack does is increase enemy HP and damage.

That does -not- solve the problem with SOTNs difficulty: The bosses are very, VERY badly designed compared to Alucard's speed and capabilities. You could give every boss in the game +100 damage and it wouldn't make a lick of difference in difficulty.
