Ninja Gaiden really only starts on 6-1. Anything before that was just a matter of throwing yourself at levels until you beat them.

Heres a power tip from a power player.
1. GET THE SPINDASH
The move where Ryu spins around when you swing in the air. Bring this Ninpo to Jaquio, it can kill him in one hit. (no enemies in NG have recovery frames, and this move never stops hitting). Press Down+B and you wont spin, so you can still jump and attack to save Ninpo
2, For the final corridor of 6-3, grab the time stopper, and run, it would spawn the 3 annoying goblins if you do it right.

This. I'm not a super fucking hardcore gamer by any means, but after putting a few hours in NG I was able to make it to stage 4-1 without losing a single life.

Some pro tips right here.

Act 6 is the best one in the game. It's where you start to feel like a true ninja. Also, never stop. If you hesitate enemies can respawn while you screw around. Especially those flying guys who throw shurikens. Just keep moving forward like a gushing stream. Flow. Be water.

Not hard or fun. Just tedious.

The last time I ever threw a controller was around 2003 (or was it 2005?) when my DKC2 cart had a dying battery.
