Fun fact! This game was originally pitched to Nintendo to be a Yoshi game. If this game were to star Yoshi, and have Mario themed enemies...but everything else were the same. Do you think this game would be remembered more fondly? I just went back and played it...it's definitely a decent game. Frustrating camera and controls are annoying at times...but overall...a very fun game!

Croc 2's ridiculously better

>> No.2616447

Amazing game. Got it when I got my PSX when I was like 8 years old or some shit. Played it to death.

Argonaut also created the SuperFX chip for the SNES, and I'm pretty sure Nintendo fucked them over somehow after that if I remember right.

It's also similar to how Warcraft and Starcraft were originally Warhammer/40K games until Games Workshop pulled the plug.

I actually preferred the tank controls of the original. After getting used to them in the first one, I could never not accidentally fall off platforms in the second game.

Croc 2 is an overall awesome game. PC port is great - vastly superior to wobble-riffic PS1 version. I'd love to see a modern Croc game. Y'know, Croc climbing radio towers and stuff.

Played it on the Saturn, it was great.

I remember there was a bug where if you played it with certain third party memory cartridges in your cartridge slot Croc's head would be invisible.

Nah it's just be Youtube reviewer bait forever known as "that shitty Yoshi game".

Ignoring that I actually liked the designs and music in Croc a lot. It's a shame the game came out before most people got the hang of 3D controls because I would have loved to see a great game with him.

That happened without any cartridges, I think it was caused if you launched the Saturn with the cd tray open.

I cannot for the life of me see how anyone can play a game with that control scheme.

Maybe I'm just pleb, but I barely got past the first boss because the controls and camera were just that bad.

But friendships based around drugs and video games can. Have a pal I met in high school in the late nineties and we spent a few summers getting drunk on cheap vodka and smoking shitty weed and playing marathon sessions of gaming on his brand new Dreamcast. He's still one of my best friends and to this day we meet up on occasion and hot-seat one-player games on his Trinitron.

It's kinda funny how Argonauts got screwed over the years. Vortex was probably planed as Transformers game, but didn't get the license and now nobody remembers that game. Croc should've been Yoshi and with the help of Nintendo I'm sure it could've been a better game.
Overall, if you look them up on wikipedia, they have a pretty damn long list of unreleased titles, Croc 3 among them.

I'm amazed when people say they have trouble with 'tank controls'. They are far more accurate than 2D directions, which make no sense where a moving camera perspective is in use.

Also in Croc you have the shoulder buttons for left/right strafing. Simple.

That would be an issue in shmups, for example, but Croc is hardly the fastest paced game in the world. I suppose it's just one of those weird preferences where neither side can understand the other - like inverted up/down.

Games that were almost going to be made by Nintendo general?

>The game was presented to Nintendo for publication, and Shigeru Miyamoto expressed strong interest in working on the game. However, Nintendo ultimately decided against publishing Plok.
