Also why does this collab scenario not have mine theming, those wooden walls are useful almost anywhere...

Not gonna lie: stuff like this the way I do it is kind of just a pain in the ass. But it's not that bad. Shaping the terrain around the coaster here for example was basically three steps:

>Choose parts of the track to go underground, delete them, dig up single squares to fit them inside, and rebuild the track
>Dig land up underneath the track you want to run flush to the ground
>Connect the gaps between all the land you dug up

So no mountain tool as >>2631697 or >2631730 suggest, but the result is a much tighter fit, and a coaster that is much more built into the terrain than just build on top of it.

It's one of the most horribly optimized games you will ever play, has a smaller size limit than RCT2, every default scenery piece, every shop (unless you have the Wild! expansion) looks cartoony and all the peeps look like shit too.

However, the gameplay is still fun. The scenario's it comes with are good and it has different goals that you need to finish than rct1+2. in RCT3 iirc there are no time limits on anything, and each scenarios has three goals to complete, each harder than the last.

Personally however I'd recommend RCT2, it actually loads in under 10 minutes (yes, some rct3 parks take that long), looks lovely, is easy as hell to add custom content, there's much more available etc etc.

Hello, everyone, it's time for round 3! This time we will be making out-and-back woodies longer than 2500 feet. There are no space restrictions on this one so get creative!

Also just a general reminder since I've seen people post about this before. If you're hesitant about entering due to less-than-perfect ride designing skills, please know that this isn't meant to be taken seriously and the goal is to get people building cool things and having fun. The last thing I want is someone to not share their creations for fear of being judged harshly, so start building and show us what you can do!

Sorry that I've been so inconsistent with posting lately, I've been working tons and have been busy with getting ready to move to university in September. I'll try and get my shit together this round.

1. Food things go anywhere there's open space, usually between paths or other scenery. I recommend getting some modded stalls which are just guys at desks so you can build them however.
2. I prefer it on block sectioned coasters with 5+ trains as long as there's enough space and I'm also being limited with how many open areas I can put the E&E.
3. 5 normally, 6 on Giga
4. Best by profit, TOGO: a 6 train, 3 minute, 8/7.6/6 masterpiece with the TOGO in 5 corners, 19-23k per hour. I still had a disgusting park and didn't want to wait until Year 20 to afford making the water-coaster and reverser not shit. Lots of slow inversions.

None of these are out-and-backs.

This is the problem with having something outside of RCT as the contest rule - people are going to not know what an out-and-back is. For the record, it's a layout which goes away from the station without twisting around itself, has a turnaround section, and then comes back to the station again without twisting around itself. Even >>2633079 isn't a 'true' out-and-back because it has a bowl halfway along the return.

Ultimately, it's not well-defined what counts as an out-and-back and what doesn't. Plus, while a strict out-and-back might be fun to ride, it's really just bunny hills and a turnaround which doesn't make for an interesting design to build.

I don't think 'out-and-back' is a very good contest category. I think something better might be a wooden roller coaster with a minimum dimension, e.g. the footprint of the coaster should be at least 40 squares in one direction, or something like that. It'd be a shame to choose a category that excludes any of the current entries though.

I'm sorry if there was any confusion as to what an out-and-back was defined as. As far as the contest goes, this >>2633476 and this >>2633079 are pretty much exactly what I was going for. I'm not going to force people to stick to the "no twisting" definition because as people said that's terribly boring, but the idea was just to have a long coaster that comes back along relatively that same path it went out on. Also, double out-and-backs are also acceptable, meaning that the coaster does another turnaround and goes out again before returning to the station. Think Twisted Colossus or El Toro.

an out-and-back coaster does pretty much what the name implies. It goes out to one point, turns around, and comes back. Due to the low amount of turns in the coaster, the primary thrill of these rides comes from an abundance of airtime.
