2611852 No.2611852 [Reply] [Original]

I just completed duke nukem 3d and all its expansions (which kinda sucked except for life's a beach) What should i play now? any other games in mind or good duke mods?

>> No.2611891

i assume youre aware of shadow warrior that runs on same engine

by your screenshot i see you're using some new engine (no paralel verticals) but you chose to upscale with no AA and not even highres textures

>> No.2611894

just keep playing until you're really good and then become a competitive duke nukem player

Not OP but I liked playing Megaton edition :^)

OP check out Nam too on your eduke32. Pretty difficult.

If you haven't played Shadow Warrior or Blood, play those.

Blood plays a little differently and pay attention to the difficulty-level changing glitch, so play on skill 4.

If you're still hungy for more Build I highly recommend Redneck Rampage Rides Again In Arkansas (the 2nd Redneck Rampage, pic related) and Powerslave aka Exhumed (PC DOS version).

As for great Duke mods or episodes, there are TONS. DNF2013 is good indeed, but as far as "big" episodes are concerned i'd recommend WGRealms (1), WGSpace if you like space maps, Daikarin, ADG Episode, Metropolitan Mayhem, Duke Hard.

There is also hundreds of good lone usermaps, I wouldn't know where to begin. You can check sites like http://www.scent-88.com/ or MSDN for that.

There are also some Total Conversions which are amazing like WGRealms 2 and AMC TC (video related).

Time to play Duke's edgier, younger brother, Blood. Then its time to play their younger Asian protege Shadow Warrior.

Btw this is a good place to ask. Anybody here play AMC TC? It's a Duke stand alone mod, somebody recommended it on /v/ earlier. Thoughts on it?

I may be the only one who thinks so but Duke Hard was a cool little EDuke32 mod to play that and Duke Xmas.

You know, I'm a huge DN3D fan. Been part of the community for more than 10 years, made maps, etc

I also used to play TONS of Dukematch. One day a dukematch buddy and I decided to try out Wang-Bang (Shadow Warrior deathmatch). It was insanely good. He said
>Shadow Warrior - making Duke3D obsolete since 1997
and I couldn't agree more.

Pic related, i kept some screenshots from matches of that day. Just look at the cookie message I'm getting just as my rockets flies only an inch above my adversary's head...

What's sad about Shadow Warrior is that the game is capable of TONS of incredible effects that could end up making crazy ass maps. Tons of effects were only used once in the game, in their basic form. If they were to be exploited, combined, I can't even imagine what could come out of it.
In terms of level design the surface of what's possible hasn't even been scratched, and it will probably never be. The issue is that, the more possibilities you have, the harder it is to map for the game, and the learning curve for SW is very steep.

>> No.2612963

>>2612847
Its a bit more complicated. I guess thats why you enjoy it? I found bith games fun and nice weapons.

>> No.2612987

>>2612847
Duke's weapons are way more satisfying. Better level design, too, and better enemies with better gameplay situations. Always bet on Duke.

You'll probably have to download the files off some abandonware site though it does pop up in indie bundles and goes for a dollar in steam sales.

>>2611993
I didn't have a problem with it. Just like I don't have a problem with DOS Build mouselook. Guess that makes me a scrub.

>> No.2613107

If you want Duke Nukem in general, I think Time to Kill on PS1 is worth checking out. It's a bit of a Tomb Raider ripoff, but much more functional in most ways.

They are probably turned off by the pop culture references, as they now put that in the top kek le epik maymay league, but I think Duke Nukem is one of the few that pull it off nicely.

it plays like a mixup of Duke/SW/Blood/Doom with some X-com thrown in, pretty fucking sweet. It's pretty hard though but you can research equipment and weapons to use - can't get over how fucking HUGE it is as well.

I think he means he doesn't like the remade HUD of Megaton.

Personaly I don't like Megaton because of the forced 3D renderer, the fakhglitches, etc
But at least it has working multiplayer, although laggy; and the great thing is that it keeps bringing popularity to the game and to usermade content.

>>2612597
>>2613218
I enjoyed it a lot, although there are some minors things here and there that I thought would come ruin it a little (like the end boss of ep2).
The game is better appreciated if you play it at least twice, so you can enjoy all the different possibilities with all the different characters, weapons, items, researches, etc

also make sure to find the secret levels in ep2. They're small but worth it and really rewarding.

>RCPD

>WGCity
>REZ2: Demolition Plant

I like maps with big sprawling layouts, lots of exploration and interconnectivity. These are all in that style.

>> No.2617280

>>2617185
Both are good although hit or miss at times (some were obviously left unfinished, unpolished especially in Wanton Destruction).

Basically maps range from "Great" to "Decent", although some of my fav SW maps are in Wanton Destruction.

Was the mine glitch fixed in Redux? If not you should play them in classic mode. Basically there used to be (still is?) a glitch in Redux that'd make mines invisible (because all voxels would appear an inch lower than they should), and Twin Dragon has quite a lot of mines in some levels.

Duke it out in DC wasn't that bad.

Nuclear Winter was pretty shit, however. I've seen better maps in Duke!ZONE....
