Are there any good action platformers for the Genesis like Super Metroid, Mega Man X, Cybernator, Kirby Super Star, ActRaiser, etc? I love the Genesis but I've always played beat em ups, shoot em ups and run n guns on it and there aren't that many good action platformers I've seen for it.

Anon, you need Chiki Chiki Boys in your life. I don't know a single Genesis owner other than me who knows about this game, and it's one of my favorites on the system. It's downright criminal it's not talked about more.

The only action platformer they did on the Genesis was Dynamite Heddy. Great game btw OP, check it out.

Also, fucking Monster World 4.

I had a Megadrive growing up but the only game I remember playing was Chakan, which I think might be up your alley.
Also I've never actually played any of them but I hear some of the Disney platformers are pretty good. Aladdin, Mickey Mouse, etc.

Chakan. Vectorman. Comix zone. Genesis had its fair share of action platforming. But seriously. Chakan is the one to play. Infinite lives by default and you'll need them all. After so much time the levels reset and you have to beat them again.

I recently got a sega cd to go with my genesis with popful mail, and during cutcenes the audio skips occasionally, is this normal?

>> No.2608427

>>2608414
Depends what you mean. Is it supposed to happen? No. Is the Sega CD having issues normal? Yes. I have two, and only one of them even plays Popful Mail (though both play some games).

>> No.2608442

>>2608427
I wondered because gameplay everything is fine. Its just during cutscenes every 30 seconds it will be like, "Ho-d it right, there bub!". Did you experience that with your playthrough?

>> No.2608447

>>2608442
No, I didn't have that issue. But keep in mind that the gameplay isn't streaming like in later CD games, it all loads at once. Whereas the dialogue is being read of the disc. The laser is probably getting old. In good news, I believe those can be replaced if it ends up dying.

>> No.2608542

>>2608447
Oh shit, I found a YT video with a cutscene that has the issue I do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtEiUe2Noio

So this is probably a hardware issue?

One of their few non-shmup efforts. Its graphics on the Genesis are fairly crude but it's a fun little game.

Also OT, El Viento would be worth your time OP. Honestly, action-platformers are one of the system's fortes.

I beat that game the other day and I loathed it so much. I almost want to say I hate it but there's just enough cool shit in the game to put it off from total garbage tier. It's one of those games you need alot of time and patience for oh and a love for the genre.

Ranger X shits all over any graphical effects the SNES can do.

>>2608835
That game would have been okay except for the part where you need to *reset the actual console* to progress.

Outside of the X68000, Strider on Genesis / Megadrive was the best home port. Super Ghouls n' Ghost isn't even the same game as Ghouls n' Ghost. You may like it better.

>>2611987
the PC Engine port is interesting, but it is not the best port, nor is it a *good port*.

the MD version is as close as it gets, outside of the X68K version, which is kind of cheating, because the game was developed on the X68K lol.

>The PC Engine CD had a great version also
It might have been great had they done a direct port and not added shit. Even the audio was shit despite being on CD. The only thing it did have going for it was a larger color palette.

Welp, I'll admit it's been a number of years since I played the PCE version. I should check it out again sometime. I remember it favorably but that was before I owned another version of Strider. It's one of my favorite games, too.

>> No.2612067

>>2612032
Checking out the PC Engine version on Youtube, the music isn't bad, but the sound effects are. They actually stop gameplay on mini and bosses to do little closeup facial animations with speech. I don't know what the fuck is happening after the first level, but that stage isn't even in the arcade. I'm sure people expected something fitting of a CD seeing as how the attachment was so god damn expensive, so a straight port might have been frowned upon. It certainly wasn't the worst Strider, but I'll take Genesis, or better yet MAME arcade any day.
