I Need some ideas for good classes to run. If anyone has played this fossil and actually beat it give me some suggestions. Much appreciated.

>> No.2598376

It can be beaten with many combinations of classes. I beat it twice- once, with two fighter a white and black mage and then again with a fighter, thief, red mage and black mage.

Thanks for the input. I might try the two fighters with the white and black mage since I've always been more of an offensive style player for rpg's.

I'm using the default class. Pretty pricey early on, but you'll learn to appreciate the diversity of the Red Mage.

Fighter: Main Tank, hits hard, can take hits. Expensive armor and weapons, but not as long as you think.

Thief: Fighter diet lite™. No redeeming qualities except speed and luck. This class is good for running and not much else, and is a moocher in my eyes. After the class change though, it makes up for lost time.

Black Belt: A glass cannon. Capable of hitting hard, cheap to maintain, but the problem lies with defense. Can become the most powerful damage dealer. At level eight, un equip everything. Absorb equals level, and he can hit harder without weapons at this point.

Red Mage: Jack of all trades, master of none. Access to some Fighter weapons and armor, as well as magic. The only mage who can efficiently defend himself without sucking up magic resources. His spells won't do as much as damage, or be as effective compared to other mages, but still effective nonetheless. By class change his flaws start to show, (hence master of none. His stats by mid game are mediocre), but everyone else will be so jacked it won't matter. A decent mage, just choose spells wisely.

Oh boy. You're going to regret that in the long run. Attacking physically makes your magic weaker and using attack magic makes your physical attacks weaker. You can't have both in that game.
So every fight is probably taking you about 4 times longer than it should due to your crazy ideas about diversity.

>> No.2601739

Another thing to consider is class change. If done properly you can do this before the fire orb. The largest determining factor is your play style. If you don't want to strategize go heavy melee. Otherwise pocket wizards will carry you when you don't oneshot everything.

The Origins game made the game a lot easier...it put in auto targeting, buffed the classes, and upped the experience and gold...and added a traditional MP system(which breaks the game, since it wasn't made with that in mind). The game was pretty much modernized. Sounds good right? Well, the game was made as a mediocre button mash fest as a result(for most), a huge step easier than the original game to the point of being different.

The game wasn't really made with these additions in mind, and while it did it modernize it, and made it more accessible, things that made the game great were lost. I'm probably exaggerating this more than I should, but personally this version is not my ideal one.

Doesn't change the fact that >>2607878 should have said Dawn of Souls and not Origins. Which is what prompted >>2607881 to misunderstand and correct them.

PS1 (Origins) retained spell charges.
GBA (Dawn of Souls) changed to MP.

You can't just interchange the "bundle names" when talking about them as their changes are radically different.

>> No.2608050

Well, once upon a time there were some colonists that wanted escape the tyranny of this fag country (britain). So they set out to find a new way of life (straight) but this wretched country pursued the colonists to try to lock them up In the rape dungeon, but to their suprised the colonists kicked the ever loving shit out of them and laughed as they flee'd back to fag land many lulz were had.

I dunno about that analogy. I think a party with both a Red Mage and Thief will have some trouble staying up.

Frankly only BALS TO THE WALL fits the description. They stay stiff (parylised) and upright and can take a beating.

>> No.2608392

to clear up the MP vs charges argument about origins...

the game gives you the option to choose one or the other

also lets you choose to enable hold circle for dash, auto-retargeting so you don't swing at dead monsters, and a couple other things

one thing I don't like is that they did not fix the bug regarding special properties of weapons not working (wyrmkiller, flame sword, etc.), did they fix that in the dawn of souls version?

>> No.2608395

Probably, they also didn't even fix the intelligence bug, so Black Mages are still useless.

Dude, that's been fixed since the Wonderswan version. It was certainly fixed for the Origins release.

How did they fix it then? Im not noticing any extra dmg or hits vs the "weak against" enemy type, nor any less dmg or hits vs the "strong against/resists" enemy types

>didn't even fix the intelligence bug

I don't think you can actually call that one a bug. It's not like they fucked up addressing a memory location or were off by one in a loop. They had no intention of tying INT to spell effectiveness at all initially.

They later went back and redesigned it for future versions to behave in a more sensible manner, but it wasn't really a software bug.

>> No.2610030

>>2609347

They're doing bonus damage in the corrected versions. It's just not a massive amount. iirc it's the equivalent of having 4 more points in your damage/atk stat if you hit something weak to it, so it starts out pretty meh on the early game weapons and ends up completely unnoticeable on your fighter's excalibur.

>> No.2610251

Source for them having no intention? All I know is that Kawazu based the fight mechanics on Dungeons and Dragons, but I would think he would have been vigilant enough to notice that two classes are almost worthless for anything outside of having a monopoly on certain, higher level spells.

Basically it's a worthless stat, it should have an effect on how well a spell is cast (increasing the effect of it), but that doesn't exist. It really fucks the game up and seriously devalues the White Mage and especially the Black Mage since outside of their spells they aren't quite so useful.

I got to the final battle this way. It was MUCH easier than I expected, thanks to the spell items. Those things are overpowered.

I would have finished the game but my cartridge was dirty and the game crashed right at the end, erasing my save file. Oh well.

I wasn't greatly interested in the playthrough anymore at that point. I was just finishing it to finish it. It was too slow and easy. Nothing can beat you once you have a nice set of spell items and healing spells, but it still takes a while to get through battles, since you don't have any powerful single-target attacks until the very end.
