What is /vr/'s thoughts about this IP and your favourite installment you have played?

puzzle collectathon. it's alright.
my favorite game is the first one where you can actually die

Wario Land 4

3 will always be the best. While 2 did have a unique branching storyline mechanic, it was light on the puzzles. Playing wario land 3 made you really think at times.

4 is the best. After that the series went very downhill.

I don't like 2, especially how secret the extra 10 levels are.

Virtual boy wario land would be my favorite, but it is too short.

>tried my best to like them
>find that they're just not for me

Is it okay that I like the overall concept and just not the execution? I do love Six Golden Coins though, but I'm not entirely sure that you could classify that as a "Wario" game

No that's Mario.

Warioland 4 will always be the best title.

Wario Land on Virtual Boy is amazing. Runner up would be the first Wario Land on Gameboy.

The Invincible Wario thing is nice, but it's not for everybody. I like the more traditional SML3 (or the VB one) mechanics best, but I admit 2-3 are great in concept (felt like the deconstructive crap indie devs come up with nowadays, but still perfectly valid as a mainstream game, and with a proper technical execution, not the BS minimalistic retro-style art direction something like this would take today)

4 is awesome at a technical level, but it lacked the impact of the previous two.

agreed 100%. The level format has been specified though so maybe we'll see hacks one day.

And as a note to all you who haven't yet played VBWL, give it a chance.

Will they release a 3DS port already goddammit

3's pacing was bad. It also sucked that you lose all the abilities you had in 2.

2 > 1st half of 3
2nd half of 3 > 2

If only the game started that way. With all levels open and all abilities to start. Would have been the best one.

1>2>4>3

The first game is more platform oriented than the others andhas just enough puzzles to keep a good pace.
The others are too slow paced for me because they are just a huge succession of puzzles. I can't be bothered to complete them whereas I've finished WL1 many times.

wasn't it short because they rushed development to make it a launch title. I mean I guess that's ok in the end though since if they didn't it most likely would have never been released at all.

I'm with you on this, I always felt that the sprites were too large and the playing field way too cramped, I mean I kind of understand what they were going for but I think the end result is ugly and annoying to play.
