What's the best boxing game according to /vr/?

>> No.2564614

I enjoyed Knockout Kings '99 for the PlayStation as a child. Also, Ready 2 Rumble.

I ask because I think this is the best boxing game of all time.

Ready 2 Rumble for Dreamcast and of course Punch Out for NES. Sadly most /vr/ boxing games hold up poorly and I doubt R2R is much fun anymore.

For any serious kind of boxing game IMO you'd have to go non /vr/ for Fight Night Round 4.

Also I cannot be the only one who thought Super Punch Out!! was just not a good sequel at all. It feels way too zoomed in and just feels awkward. I was surprised Game Sack liked it better.

But western games are objectively inferior to japanese games. They're slow, have unprecise gameplay, collisions, general polishing. It's a fact

It was superior in every way. More complex, varied, challenging. It's just you

It was way, way easier than Punch-Out!! and final boss aside that's not even a very hard game.

Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out are really good games but they are meant to be comic and have elements to them that are not realistic to boxing.

If you want a boxing game that's more related to real life boxing there are some really good games on the Genesis/Mega Drive like:
Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing (really good, but gets very difficult when you reach high ranks)
Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Boxing
Greatest Heavyweights

That looks like a damned fine boxing game, especially for the GB.

That combination 1st- and 3rd-person gameplay looks pretty cool. I love when games experiment with interesting mashups of game styles.

holyfield's real deal is the best.

>Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing (really good, but gets very difficult when you reach high ranks)

I wouldn't really say that. You can cheese most fights by just alternating between body and head blows. You'll usually win by depleting their head or chest meter and their manager stopping the fight instead of knockout, but it works most of the time. Then again I played the hell out of that game and it's sort of a guilty pleasure to this day.

Boxing on the GB is my favorite. But Teleroboxer, Punch Out and Super Punch Out are all fun too.

There's also plenty of great anime boxing related games, but they're all not retro, so.

Are there even many Japanese boxing games outside of Punchout? I guess there may be some obscure ones based on Ashita no Joe. Seriously out of all the genres to say this why the hell did you pick boxing?

>> No.2565649

>>2564691
I loved Greatest Heavyweights. Only thing I could never do in the career mode was win a match against the longest reaching boxers by ko. I remember not being able to get close enough to land any combos so I'd win the matches by decision with stab and runs. I loved the taunts in the game, and the newspaper photograph of the ko punch was a nice touch.

>> No.2566965

Ready 2 Rumble and Punch Out are my favorites. They're not simulations at all but I suppose that's what makes them fun

button 2 + up is the most annoying taunt ever.

love the combination of button+direction for a move.
if kickboxing is included in this thread then there's panza kickboxing which plays a lot like budokan with the directional controls (slower paced and more tactical, calculating reach, hitbox, and frames). you can even customize your movesets.

It was very fun and while yes, it was easier than the original, it was because you were a better fighter not because the opponents were weak or easy.

I enjoyed Riddick Bowe Boxing for the SNES, but it is pretty repetitive annd goddamn if it isn't the most hand-cramping game of all time.
