Can we have an Earthbound thread? I just finished this game a month or so ago and I thought it was great. After reading a bunch of other information on it (like it's development process and such), I began to appreciate the game much more. It's one of my favorite games at the moment and I'd love to see what others think about it.

>> No.2562289

I think it's a decent game that's plain fun. The modem setting gives the a game a relatable charm, and the Rolling HP makes sure you don't get screwed over outright.

The mechanics are basic though. Just a standard RPG with a relatable setting and story that's all about the journey rather than the destination.

Thanks cool guy, for offering another look at a marginal game, enchanting as it may be. I'm sure you insight will prove to be another invaluable resource for the board

We really need a whole thread for this negligible rpg.

It's funny that you call EarthBound haters hipsters, considering how every EarthBound fan can't shut up about how nobody else in the world appreciates its genius.

Earthbound is a great RPG with a unique story and setting.

But with only 3 games in the series it gets hyped far too much.

Good idea. I haven't seen an EB thread in ages.
I played it. Didn't hate it. Most people only hate it because of the sperglords who sperg all over it.

this never happens

Earthbound threads are generally really civil and great until people like you come around

You wanna know a secret? I honestly couldn't play it to the end until I downloaded this hack.
romhacking.net/hacks/1973/

It just made the story and the characters so much more bearable.

Moonside was easily one of the highlights of the game for me. I didn't see that area coming at all and it left a really strong impression.

The prehistoric place was also really cool. Seeing the difference in scale between the sprites of your characters on the map and the size of the enemies you fight really made you feel insignificant and powerful at the same time. Following it up with that cave that shows Ness's thoughts on the wall (that was in the prehistoric area right? Been a while since I played the game) was also really cool. Suddenly seeing into the head of this character who has been a silent protagonist the whole game, without actually breaking the silent protagonist rules and having him talk, was really neat.

Of course everything with Magicant was also really memorable. The Flying Man song is great, and the ocean of Id was really cool. When it showed Ness's memories of his house as an infant, and when he got rid of the Giygas statue in the sea of Id and cleared it from the collective consciousness that all souls spring from, well, that whole segment of the game is when I started to believe the game actually does live up to its hype.

Oh, and Saturn Valley is rad just because the Mr. Saturns crack me up. And any place that has one of those "You've come far" moments is really nice, so that adds to it as well.

>> No.2564173

I still crack up when I think of the one mr. Saturn who gives you all his shit, and then says " I have no something". No idea why I think it's so funny, I feel bad for the poor fool.

Liking Earthbound used to be like a badge of honor to some people which is dumb, so now it's like a badge of honor to shit on those people which is equally if not more dumb.

Don't worry about the meta-posting talking about fandoms and memes and such. Just talk about the game itself and others will join in.

“No matter the farewell, I think the most appropriate thing to say is “we”ll meet again.” We are friends so we”ll see each other again. There is nothing strange about saying it. Yeah. We’ll meet again.
Even if you didn’t have the chance to put into words how sudden it was going to be, how far you’d be traveling, or how you went much earlier than expected, I know you went wearing your best.
You always put yourself second to others no matter what, helping anyone who needed it whenever they needed it. You were that kind of friend. Although you may have been a little selfish for the first time ever by taking this journey.
The truth is though that I still don’t believe any of it. I feel like I am going to receive a message from you inviting me out to eat at any moment. I wouldn’t mind if you were to ask me like always if I had some free time. If you did, I’d ask you as well.
Still, “we’ll meet again.” It would be great to hear from you whenever and wherever; I’ll being calling to you too. I’ll call if I have something to discuss or I want to tell you a great new idea I’ve had.
We’ll meet again.
Then again, you’re here with me now.”

Now you can see the friendship that helped this game to be made

There's not much else to say about it. It doesn't have innovative new features like some Final Fantasy games, it's not much of an inspirational game, it's just how I said it or similar things. You seem angry, anon.
