Were any of these off-shoot platformers for GB/C actually any good? I remember a lot of PS1 games being "ported" to Game Boy back in the day. I use the term "port" loosely, because they're nothing like their 3D counterparts.

I wonder if they were all just out-sourced watered-down shit, or if any of them were actually worth having in your collection.

No.

not platformer but Driver on GBC is a nice top-down car chase game better than the GTA attempts for GBC

No need to split hairs. I suppose GB/C ports in general are what I'm curious about. I just wonder how these games translate to 2D hardware.

Kid Dracula and Gargolye's Quest are pretty cool, but you sound like you're looking for western games. So no, all the spinoffs on GB were just shovelware, and a LOT of them got them. I remember there were a bunch of Turok games on GB.

All of the Rare "ports" are great. Perfect Dark is awesome for example.

>> No.2550290

Most of the western down-ports are pretty bad. Rare is an exception. A lot of the japanese ones are pretty good though, a lot of it is just RPGs and such so the language barrier prevents most westerners from playing them.

I don't know why Kid Dracula or Gargoyle's Quest matter, but the Turok games certainly do. The first one really was a bad platformer, but the others where cool top-down run'n'guns. Thank you Bit Managers.

Daikatana on the GBC is really cool. Croc 2 on the GBC was made by Natsume and got the better reviews.

I remember it being weird and incomprehensible, but then again I got it from a friend and thought it'd be a standard action platformer.

And even more relevant to the topic, there was one Oddworld game for the GBC.

Liked the Tomb Raider games for GBC. TR's exploration platforming worked well as a Prince of Persia-style sidescroller with the usual traps and puzzles, great animation too.

Rayman GBC was great and has better music than the original

>> No.2556425

Azure Dreams has a good GBC port.
