What are your favorite retro remakes, /vr/? The platform itself doesn't have to be retro, as long as the game in question is a remake of an originally retro title.

Pic related. Not sure if many people are aware that Final Fantasy Legend / SaGa 1 originally for Game Boy was remade for the WonderSwan Color. An enhanced port of Romancing SaGa 1 is also available for WSC.

I don't think people are aware at all of the WSC, except for the Final Fantasy ports.

>tfw they remade 2 and 3 for the DS but not 1
Why?

Also Pokemon FireRed. Not only does it do everything a remake should with some stupidity, though that has been fixed for the most part, but it's also one hell of a hacking base.

For those who can't moon WSC is mostly Dicing Knight, SaGa, the FF ports, and some other games that got successfully ported/remade to the GBA.

Japanese, but there's a fan translation available at towerreversed.org

>>2525321

At the very least, it would have been nice if the SaGa 1 remake were ported to the GBA and localized in English.

>FireRed

I'm just glad they actually made it pretty difficult for a Pokemon game.

>FireRed
>Difficult

If anything they nutered it, and I mean this honestly because for some reason they were targeting first-time players too. Emerald was way better in this regard.

>Fucking Mankey in the very beginning instead of Nidorans that wouldn't have been too powerful but were still useful
>Direct port of Gym Leader's pokemon loadouts except for movesets which are copypaste makes them laughable sometimes
>SelfDestruct is taken off of almost every Hiker, scientist, and Biker that exists.
>Some Pokemon themselves got moveset switches in specifically this version only to make things easier, especially Zubat and Charmander
>Annoying as fuck help system

The Elite Four in FRLG is easily the hardest in the entire series by a longshot.

>Dat Venomoth with Gust
>Postgame Sludge Bomb TM, in Kanto where nearly everything that moves is a Poison-Type that doesn't have a good Poison-Type move.

This is why I like hacks like FireRed 251 that actually try to fix shit.

>>2525363
Actually giving them moves made the whole remake worth it. I don't know if they ran out of time in the originals or what.

Also for laughing at that Venomoth that does nothing now, Sabrina still just as good thanks to clever use of Ghost/Dark type move distribution.

PS1 FF1 Even though Final Fantasy Restored has fixed things further

Dragon Quest 1-3, either version is good.

I'm a minority here, but Sword of Mana.

PC Engine's Tower of Duraga remake by far.

This thing's a fucking beast, and for crying out loud get the translation because it's very important to the game.

Are those trees in the shape of seal script characters? what do they translate to?

>> No.2526330

It sure was a big step forward compared to Metal Max 2.

Still amused that they put MM2 battle theme as a boss theme in Returns.

One hell of a game though, one of the best JRPGs on the SNES for sure.

dragon quest V DS

so fucking good

I personally like the PS2 version better, but DS is damn good too. They used the DS remakes for mobile IV-VI too, making them easily the best of the Square ports.

>> No.2526468

Even though DS is out, I still enjoy PSP's FFIV better.

Man do I love dem Lunar Ruins.
