the superior game.

>> No.2515341

Battletoads was actually an awesome game. It was pretty fucking hard at first, but once you memorized the levels it could be readily beat by a decent player (I have many times, without cheating or warps).

What was really amazing about it was that EVERY level was totally different. There really were no hum-drum average stages. Every single one had a totally different mechanic. Impressive as hell game.

Its only flaws is that it tried to do too much, so some of the mechanics were poorly implemented. Rat Race was the worst offender. God, I fucking HATE that level.

Me too. One time I had a glitch happen where the rat didn't appear at the end.

The game basically froze requiring a reset. I was pissed because I was trying to beat the game without using warps or cheats. Had to reset at Rat Race.

Fuck that evil level, man.

I also miss everytime I try to headbutt the rat for extra time. People make it look easy but I always missed the motherfucker.

Turbo Tunnel and Volkmire's Inferno have less obstacles and don't scroll as fast.
I think in Clinger Winger your unicycle is now faster than the orb, so it's almost trivial to beat.
There are probably a lot more changes I don't remember.

Yes it is that hard. The first time through anyway. Castlevania is kinda like that too, but this game has a lot of BS, and punishes you for not knowing better.

>> No.2515682

It's a fun game.

Also, this game is not that hard. The difficulty is greatly exaggerated (like the water temple). Most people who talk about how hard it is these days never played battletoads.

Funny, I wanted to make a thread about this game, yet here is one right now.
I'm doing a thing for myself called a "Road to Victory"
I gonna beat this game if it kills me, no warps, no cheats, nada.
So far I can make it to the tunnles with losing maybe 2 lives or one continue, I can probably reduce my deaths, but fuck man that hit detection.
The part that's killing me right now is that stupid section on the turbo tunnel where an exclamation mark pops up and I keep falling to my death.
I'm on day two on my journey to beat this game, and why not on the most American of days, wish me luck fellas.

Exaggerated? Shore. But it's not impossible, and can be fun. The problem is that it can feel like a chore due to its difficulty, with little satisfaction. This game just has a lot of out if left field bull.

Battletoads was one of my favorite games as a kid. Best thing about it was the level variety, every one had something different or new about it. Also good music and nice graphics for the NES.

I did manage to beat it a couple of times, using warps. Without warps I could never make it past Clinger Winger because I couldn't figure out what to do with the few lives I had when I got there.

I can still go back and play the turbo tunnels and beat it pretty easily. It's like muscle memory.

The game is picky when deciding whether or not you've successfully landed after those jumps. The trick is that you have to have a net non-negative change in your x position after each jump. If you move to the left too much while you're in the air, the game might think you missed the platform even if you land right on top of it.

The last checkpoint is some luck based shit. The orange fish at the end swims around randomly, and you don't want to find him waiting for you when you get around the first set of spikes, because he'll just knock you straight into them. Those guys are almost impossible to hit, too, it's usually just suicide even trying.

For anyone having trouble with the very end of Volkmire, don't move straight down to get through the last gap, going downleft makes it so much easier.
