I guess you could argue that it's a pretty impressive port given the hardware (maybe, I know fuck all about the ZX Spectrum), but the fact is that it's a shitty version of the game.

everyone complains about the music, but you can turn that shit off (and for the most part it's not that bad, even if it's at no point particularly good)

the real problems are 1: no episode 3 levels (hell, there's damn few levels at all) and 2: textures (I know the rom is only 3MB, but it's still kind of lame how boring they got)
oh, and I think the lighting got gimped as fuck, there's none of the nice doom distance fading and everything is pretty bright, much brighter than it should be

framerate's not amazing, but it's passable, especially for the time

crowd control is certainly not intact since there's only two enemies on screen at a time
they also fucked the balancing, you have 5 lives and every 5 000 points or whatever you get an extend. it gives you extends out the ass

Mercs only allowed 1-player on the Genesis though and there's too much slowdown. Also, Forgotten Worlds is missing stages on the Genesis and doesn't allow you to change your shot style like in the CPS version.

what do you mean? the weapons you buy from the shop?

In the CPS version of Forgotten Worlds, Player 1 (blond guy) has a long-range single shot, while Player 2 (mohawk guy) has a shorter wide shot. In the Genesis version, they're both single shots.

I had Sonic on an Sony Erricson Equinox. It didn't have any sound effects and the music was a cheap MIDI but it played fine for me. And better than on a smartphone because you had fucking buttons.[/spoilers] I miss flip phones.

>It's no worse than Mercs on the Genesis in all honesty.
I remember you, and i will reply the same thing, both are far from perfect, but Mercs retained the core gameplay much better than the SNES Final Fight port, plus the original mode is neat.

If you think that no co-op and missing content is the only problem with the game you haven't played Final Fight arcade enough.

The Dragon Quest series did fare better, though it's mostly because IV-VI are the DS versions.

Square's ports are well known to be way better on phones as opposed to tablets for a lot of reasons, mostly because of what >>2519715 mentioned, Japan's big on smartphones but not anything else atm.

All the landscape titles look horrid on a big screen either way, especially with the black bars.

Batman Arkham Knight PC port. Forget retro, if you can't actually finish a game because of all those game crashes I consider it to be the shittiest port ever, regardless its age.

Syndicate on the Genesis would have been a decent port if the controls weren't so ridiculous.

Uhm, their Chaos Rings RPG are full fledged 3D RPG's on the level of console games. It's a very neat IP, and while they are all iPhone only at first I'm pretty sure they were all ported to the Vita as well.

How was the Game.Com so phenominally awful? The basic, hollow sound; the sub-Gamate screen that made almost every game unplayable (sans Lights Out and maybe Wheel of Fortune;) The choppy, abysmal gameplay. Screw how it failed, the better question is how could this have succeeded.

And for the quadrillionth time, this is not a port. Go ahead, show me this game's original NES version.

It's essentially a licensed fangame, made by like one dude. It's also not exactly terrible compared to other DOS platformers of the time.
