Sometimes, I look at my shelf.

I see Time Crisis, House of the Dead, Virtua Cop and all the other guncon games I have, immediately afterwards I think about the Guncons I have in the closet when they're not in use.

Then I think "These are the only things that can never be kept current with HDTVs, no cable will ever fix tht" as I look at my CRT and think about the inevitable impossibility of being able to stick with one before I have to move on to an HDTV for cost or space reasons.

and I feel sad.

>having to get rid of CRT for cost or space reasons
Do you anticipate your CRT costing more or taking up more space in the future?

You know what I'm going to do with this thread? I'm going to talk a little bit about CRT projection! You probably already know that shitty 80s and 90s style "big screen" TVs work with light guns but did you know that you can scale that up using pro CRT projectors that regularly turn up on Craigslist from bars or schools that replace them with digital?

If motivated you could construct very large (120"+) rear projection screens that would work with your old school light guns and, by virtue of being rear projection, you could stand very close to. Isn't that fucking awesome?

>>2498116
Turns out humans have an expiry date also, including you and loved ones. Just think about that, one day you will have to move on. Also, so does the ability to walk and move quickly, sooner or later pretty much everything goes to shit.

However I do get what you're saying. I look at the CRT in my bedroom, and I wonder how long it will last, and what's going to happen when it gives up. I got it for free.

samefag errr, that was a weird way to end the post. I was going to make the point that I'd feel bad abusing the ~$0 to stock up on them now, but I have no idea how much they might cost in future, particularly ones capable of 120Hz.

Light guns work with CRT rear projection displays, NOT DLP. You can instantly recognize them because they have three cannons instead of one like DLPs do. I'm sure if you think about it you've played something like Time Crisis at the arcade on a large rear projection screen or like I said on someone's dad's "big screen TV" in their rec room during the 80s/90s.

I've been considering temporarily assembling a large scale setup like this outdoors and night filming a youtube video of myself beating House of the Dead 2 or something silhouetted on rear projection screen taller than I am.

/crt/fag here btwlol

>> No.2499947

>>2499373
They work just fine on CRT front projection displays as well.
You'll need a very bright projector and a dark outside. I have a 3k lumen projector with a 140" screen on my roof and I can't even begin to use it until well after sunset.

>> No.2500026

Why not have an HDTV and a CRT? You could mount the HDTV on the wall above the CRT.

HDTVs are pretty cheap and getting cheaper every year. Shit, I remember five years ago people would pay big bucks for a 32 inch 720p television. Now they are probably $200 or less.

>> No.2500148

OP's gonna soon e in a situation where he doesn't have enough room for both.
You can't mount an HDTV in the wall of a cardboard box dingus.

Yeah I figured front projection would work too with bright enough projectors but you still can't get right up against the screen.

Don't worry. Some cunt will absolutely stand right up against the screen while you're playing on a front projector. Only when you really need to see what's going on though. They'll stay away for cut scenes and whatnot.
