It has the same gravity as Phobos and Deimos, which in Doom has the standard normal gravity of Earth.

There was no shift in gravity, everything is static. Doomguy is a constant in his universe, unaffected by gravity or silly things like fall damage.

To say it was plausible for Doomguy to hold everything because gravity is weaker over where he was is pretty silly

having an error running Doom RPG with GZDoom, here's a screencap showing what it says went wrong and here's how I have the bat file for it set up;

For those who do not care about D3 - according to D3's lore, being in hell provides people with so called "Hercules complex" - they feel no fatigue and have no need for food/water while in hell.

My guess is that Doomguy spent so much time in hell so the effect stuck.

Allow me to give my opinion from a fan of both Doom AND Halo.

Now I love both series equally and I see what screw attack did here but....Doom guy would have won i'm sorry.

From my experience with every halo thus far (besides 4 which hadn't come out at the time of this video's making so I doubt it matters.) all it would have taken was 2 BFG blasts and Master chief's ass would have been grass.

1 blast to destroy the shield. 1 more to destroy chief himself. And considering how fast doom guy can run he could literally just strafe out of the way of Chief's bullets then give him an ass full of BFG.

Of course this is all going by GAME logic. in universe logic though Chief would have won.

So I guess screw attack were going by universe logic since the only non game logic doomguy has are the comics as far as my knowledge goes.

>Doomguy can take like two rocket blasts unarmored, give or take (if fully armored, he can take up to 3 directly to the face) -- Master Chief dies if he's remotely near to an explosion with no shield, and can take two blasts with full shield maybe.
>Master Chief hits like a truck (like, two melee hits will kill another player, full shield), Doomguy without a berserk pack hits pretty softly in comparison.

Is there a good way to replace sprites for custom monsters in either Vanilla Doom or Boom? I'm want to play around with inserting new enemies, but it's a huge pain in the ass to make sure all of the frames for each sprite are covered.

I've done some basic sprite substitution and played around with frames to create custom enemies. Eg I've changed the trooper with a marine, bumped up movement speed, and changed the attack to that of arachnotron.

However, I've downloaded some wads off Realm667 with custom monsters in them, and I want to use the sprites in a Doom/Boom wad. Is there a good way to go about bulk-replacing sprites? I've renamed the sprites in SLADE to have the same prefix as the sprite I want to replace, but there's some mismatching in a few of the frames, and there's some extra frames. Also, the new sprites don't show up in WhackEd.

To clarify, ZDoom's netcode guy, Edward850, thinks peer-to-peer is the end-all be-all.

Zandronum does modern client/server/master server, adjusting ZDoom code where necessary (adding things like "clientsideonly" flags for decorative actors like the Quake explosion particles in Samsara, etc)

I've always found that every single 90s shooter has kind of a feel to it that makes it more than just pointing and clicking at nasty people to make them go away.

Doom feels like a waltz. You move around the floor with surprising dexterity to keep you and everyone around you in sync. I wish I could come up with something different to for Heretic and Hexen but I still keep falling back to Waltz.

Duke feels like a sockhop. There's a lot of moving around but not a lot of getting somewhere, if you get my drift. Lots of dodging and movement, but most of it is trying to keep up with crowd control while in a nice arena-like place. This is why the multiplayer is so good.

And Quake... hohohohoho quake. Quake is like a fucking ballet up in here, as several dancers hop around the stage to make the most of it while interacting in a glorious spectacle of fighting. Er, dancing. Wherever this allegory is going.

So yeah, basically 90s FPSes are like bloody, gory dancing, amongst other things. (Chess, an Escher painting...)

I realized recently that I've played Duke Nukem a lot more than I played Doom when I was a kid, and I also realized that I like Duke Nukem's level design a lot more than anything Doom 2 has. Technically D3D couldn't do true 3D or rooms over rooms either, if I remember right. The Cyberdemon/Baron room is basically 'sit back and wait for things to resolve themselves before grabbing the Invulnerability and blowing up what's left'.

I did not know these missions make the target enemy spawn more often. Nor did I know hellstorm elementals can spawn in place of cacos.

The map I was on had like 15 caco spawns in an outdoor area with no cover and thin walkways.. Falling off here means death, and just before this was a one way elevator, so no retreating to better terrain.

You can also do a heist. If by heist, you mean 'blow up the power, steal the goodies behind the forcefield, and kill good guys until the emergency forcefield goes away

What's the best shield combination? Right now I have two different loadouts. One that's all capacity, minimizing charge and maximizing Delay. Then giving it H0W-EV3N, so instead it's a huge charge, with barely any delay, and up to 4000 capacity.

Then for the other loadout, it's one with minimum delay, the largest charge possible, and E1N-T31, so that it stops time every time I take damage.

Not him, but I don't disagree. They're mostly (looking at you, E4M2) a breeze to anyone adept at 90s shooters. The difficulty bar is pretty low for most part and moderate by the ends of them. This can bore people expecting a challenge.

This doesn't make them uninteresting for a first playthrough, just not as adrenaline-pumping. Some maps like Containment Area and Deimos Labs demonstrate atmosphere building over in-your-face hordes.

AV and Plutonia, like others have said, are great examples of challenging, faster paced and fun mapsets.

If all else fails, play it with -fast.

See there's a reason they didn't exist in Doom 1: They just plain aren't fun unless you can zoom around the vertical axis with any sort of alacrity. Dukes got jumps and jetpacks to deal with that. There's a reason Doom has had an abstract level design philosophy ever since Romero first tried it out.
