I think the same. Togo started working on stand-ups because they're fucking crazy, but later on other manufacturers decided to give it a second look, because a lot of Togo's innovation was duplicated and improved by others. It didn't end up being the *next big thing* as far as coasters go, instead it was more like the flavor of the month sort of thing for a while there. But novelty is important in the amusement business, so I think that's part of why so many stand-up coasters were built.

Speaking of Togo innovations, their ultra-twister/heartline twister designs deserve a second chance.

Not exactly RCT related, but does anyone know why coasters with the track shape in pic related are all so rough and clunky? Or is it just a Vekoma issue or something?
Every single time I rode El Condor, Superman (now called X-Press or some shit) and Speed Of Sound (ex-La Via Volta) at Walibi Holland and Efteling's Python I felt like I came off with a concussion (though El Condor hasn't been too bad since they "fixed" it), which fucking sucks since they're all great coasters. I attempted to post this on /v/ but e3 made it impossible, so I hoped I could discuss it her.
What does /v/ think of the Roller Coaster Tycoon series?
I played this quite a bit when I was younger and I saw these games in the recent summer sale and decided to get them again. It's been so long that i didn't quite remember which one i liked the most. It really comes down to Either 2 or 3; 2 makes RCT 1 redundant as 2 is the same as 1 but better and you can just get the RCT 1 scenarios in 2 anyway.

More to the point however, I thought I had disliked 3 and preferred 2 but that's mostly my nostalgia talking because after playing both 2 and 3 again, I feel like I have to admit that at the end of the day, RCT3 is best of the series. It's just an all around improvement over 2 in every regard, except for the artstyle, in my opinion.

I wanted to know what other RCT players here thought about the series.

Well the very fact that an RCT General exists at all here tells me that I am a much more casual player of the games compared to others here so I want to the opinions of more experienced players.

In summary, the r are 3 tings that 3 superior:
They made the UI a lot more organized and easier to navigate.
Managing your staff and shops has many more options and details to edit that make it all more efficient.
A 3D environment is far more preferable to contruction than static 2D camera angles.

RCT2 is superior to RCT1 save for the scenarios. Luckily RCT1's scenarios have all been recreated for RCT2 so it's pretty much all you need.
RCT3 is competent and looks nice at times but it lacks the depth, accessibility and overall charm of the earlier titles.

Maybe I'm just used to the original interface, but IMHO RCT3's interface is a clusterfuck.

The staff training was fucking retarded and there was no reason for every attraction to have a separate staff member. I will agree with you on the customization of shops, though.

>A 3D environment is far more preferable to contruction than static 2D camera angles.
Again, I'm probably just used to the 2D isometric view, but I wasn't a huge fan of the 3D shit (which, by the way, wasn't optimized at all and ran like shit at night without the one patch).

I disagree with you about the UI but honestly that doesn't matter to me. The graphics and overall feel they bring is what make me prefer RCT2 quite heavily over 3. Woodies that are compact and packed tight with twists and turns always give me that out of control, "oh god this track wasn't built for this speed why are we going so fast" feeling which is what woodies are all about for me.

I personally prefer 2. I absolutely love the art style of it and I feel like I can get way more creative with that than 3. Gotta admit I'm heavily biased though, first of all RCT 1 and 2 were pretty much my main childhood games while 3 came a bit too late to feel the same level of nostalgia for it, and secondly 3 ran like shit on the pc I had back then and I haven't played it again since I got rid of said pc.
I'm gonna install it again soon though. Come to think of it it wasn't even that bad, what with being able to get a POV perspective on most rides, a greater variety in coaster elements (a lot of which I heavily miss in 2, like bigger corkscrews, inclined loops, and my no.1 coaster fetish the dive loop. Holy shitballs, going through one of those fuckers never fails to give me a raging hard-on), pools, fireworks (another hobby of mine), and complete camera freedom. The latter did take some getting used to at first though. I was so used to the good ol' isometric view it just confused my poor autismal brain and almost caused me to drop it straight away.

The 3D models in RCT3 fall into the uncanny valley for me. It's fixable with CSOs, but I rather compare the bare games.
The collision detection is bad. Being unable to put a wall next to a path on the same tile is impossible even with a modified configuration file. Again this does not go for CSOs.
The prethemed rides are also something I don't realy enjoy. This goes for the RCT2 expansions as well.

Basically, the train is too long for the one-tile station, so the final car rests in the exit station. When the ride starts, it tricks the game into thinking it's arriving at the station, so it goes through the entire ride like that, at 4 mph. Which is why it's so goddamn long.

>Basically, the train is too long for the one-tile station, so the final car rests in the exit station. When the ride starts, it tricks the game into thinking it's arriving at the station, so it goes through the entire ride like that

I screwed around with the glitch a while back and it's more complicated than that. I'm not sure what it is but it's not just having the train overlapping both stations; the glitch doesn't work with a Giga for example. IIRC it only works with the 6-seater hypertwister cars and 6-seater wooden coaster cars (both forwards and backwards) - but not the hypercoaster, which is also a 6-seater train. AFAIK it's only those three train types where the glitch works.

>> No.2474309

>>2474306
Interesting. I wonder why that is.

>> No.2474323

It's something with tricking the train that it's arraiving in the station. I don't have the screenshots on this computer but you can also do it with any coaster able to launch backwards (if I remember correctly, will probably do some experiments tomorrow) by only giving them enough speed to almost enter the station.

Its a lot of walking. The whole park is situated in the woods, and they left tons of trees and shit. There aren't many thrill rides (They have 1 steel coaster, two woodens, a bobsled coaster, and a few "thrill" rides), but the allure is the atmosphere and the nostalgia.

They have a few free museums, lots of old time rides (which while not exciting are fun), and a couple rare rides like their Haunted Mansion (One of the last pretzel car houses left)

The food is great and its just fun. There are fuckloads of things to do and its free admission/parking (You pay per ride)

The work continues. I'm gonna cover the ravine access lift in a similar fashion as the circus line, and add a mine train coaster opposite the railroad. As a matter of fact, should I cover the circus itself or leave it open? Looks a bit awkward at the moment with the entrance as it is.

Okay,I'll keep it open for now, maybe put some high fences or something around it to make it all pretty. And thanks, I'm pretty happy with how it's shaping up. I'm kind of holding off on putting in a big epic main attraction until I nail down the aesthetic of the rest of the square, as well as the fact that more landscaping is needed in the other corners. On that thought, do you guys landscape first and work your main coaster into it, or put down the coaster design first then work the land around it?

if i have an idea from the beginning, i'll do general landscaping first, then the coaster. i almost always end up having to delete sections of the coaster, adjust the land, then rebuild the coaster as i decide that a section should go underground or something.

the game makes it hard to landscape once the coaster is done.

I don't remember a lot of details, but I do remember one day trying to build a tunnel, and ending up with some sort of handcrafted mini-ravine, which a car ride went down into and out of again, without ever going underground. There wasn't even anything going over it.

I was a ride Op for Mantis at Cedar Point last year. Standups are the best rides to work, but not the best to ride.

Problem is they didn't figure out you can't do much with them until it was too late, and when B&M made their first, people were just ecstatic it was half as rough as everything else.

Really though locking the seats in place at random from controls when jackasses are jumping and watching them slam on the bicycle seat with their feet dangling in the air is....the best.

So I'm reinstalling RCT 1 Gold after like four years. I've had some technical issues and frankly you people are the only people I think who would care:

1. Is there a good NoCD patch/.exe?

2. Why does the installer for Corkscrew Follies/Loopy Landscapes crash whenever I try to run it leaving the game unable to launch?

I'm on windows 7, but I doubt that's the issue since I've installed it without issues on this PC before. Did a registry cleaning before attempting to reinstall, no help.

It's definetly not as smooth as it used to be and the catch car has become pretty rusty.
Calling it now. They will either realise that this coaster is their main attraction and care for it better. Or something will happen with the cable lift. Wouldn't be the first time.

New sandbox game, experimenting with scenery a little and doing build practices. I love spiral roller coasters so much. Aside from the giga coaster they might be my favorite coaster type without inversions. My favorite coaster though is the Vertical Drop coaster -- though one of the hyper twisters can have vertical track and more complex track in general, I really like the large seating capacity of the trains, letting more guests ride and get happy.
