Reposting because OP is a faggot.

Doom Touch (Android port with Chocolate, PrBoom+, GZDoom 1.8.6 and GZDoom 2.1pre support) is coming back, now on the Amazon, and it's FREE for a limited time (regular price is about $2 though)
Downloads, ratings and favorable reviews increase the probability of Beloko's other ports getting through Amazon's pre-moderation!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZV118YK

A bit of a backstory: Beloko made a lot of android ports for various games (like Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Doom, all with mod support), but recently 3 of his ports got taken out due to "their icons being in violation with the copyright" bullshit, and his account, along with all the apps got suspended from Play Store.

Now he's trying to get them back on Amazon.

Been playing through Slaughterfest 2012 with Ranger for a few maps so far. You never seem to appreciate how good the BFG (and similar weapons) is until you dont have it anymore. Having to clear hordes at close range with just rockets and a Tunderbolt can get daunting.

It is at least good practice for manuvering around giant throngs of monsters.

Yesterday evening I brought up how in the idle view of the gauntlet gun in needle mode in GMOTA was missing, only appearing when firing or charging for the big spear shot.

But now not even the fists are visible when you throw your sword in magic mode. I tried redownloading GMOTA and resetting my GZdoom config, but nothing helped.

I wish there was a Demo friendly port with MAPINFO. Demo friendly, as in it has something like prboom's -complevels, and doesn't break demos with each subsequent version release.

Would be great to have doom/boom format mapsets for Doom 2 without being confined to limitations, such as secret exits only working on MAP15 and 31, and tag 666/667 only working on MAP07 and only with Mancubuses and Arachnotrons, etc.

All these engine vary in how true to the original they are as opposed to how many new features are present.

Chocolate doom is virtually the same as on release, purposely retaining many engine quirks and limitations - the difference is that it works without hassle.

I don't know too much about engines for vanilla play since I almost exclusively play custom mapsets and prefer to use gzdoom (currently the most advanced port) for that. Gzdoom comes with some terrible default settings that make the game look like ass with sprite and texture filtering though.

Prboom is often mentioned as a reasonably vanilla-friendly port that supports high resolutions and such.

What I miss on the cacos are pupils - they have such a good setup to be a really expressive and characterful monsters but flat colored eyes take away from that. Can't be too cartoony though.

If it was me designing it, I could have mad maps, like you would be able to smash through a stained glass window of a demonic castle at diagonal sprint speeds, crowdsurf over a gorillion barons to a podium to grab an invincibility sphere, shoot the r667-esque champion enemies on the podium in the face with akimbo BFGs, massacre the entire crowd of the unholy conference, run at breakneck speeds through the unholy conference hall's halls while bright red light from the hellish skybox is shining through the windows, barging into rooms to kill masterminds, barons, archiviles and other noble-like monsters in a crazy murder orgy in a themed map where you essentially try to behead the entire demon power structure.

This is just drunken rambling, but I can't understand why they went with brown, orange and quicktime events instead of something that would make both the old fans go ALWAYS BET ON DOOM and blow the newfags out of their fucking seats with something the alike of which hasn't been released in their entire lifetimes.

I just wanted a Doom that sticks true to it's roots, but with more of everything and taking advantage of new technology like jumping.

Like it would be cool as shit if the new Doom had a bruiser brothers boss fight, and they were actually different from barons of hell. Like, both of the brothers had a mutated craggy molten lava rock arm, one as the left and the other as the right arm, and they had more health and more complicated attacks. And then, later in hell you'd sometimes run into champion barons that have the lava arm on both sides otherwise a more lava-man color.
It would be some unspoken deepest lore -shit that the bruiser brothers you fight in the first episode are some kind of malformed twins that were rejected by the other demons and sent to grunt duty.

TOB runs better then TNO and has more options. TOB was more gameplay, less story. Still loved both of them. Wish they ported those engine changes from TOB to TNO.

Yeah that was really a big gripe with the nightmare sections they kept the old level design and didn't adapt it to the new playstyle, you run at normal human being speeds in these giant ass rooms designed at a time when the protagonist could run like 30 miles per hour.

when DooM II included the first level of wolfenstein in it they adapted to the new design by making it more spacious to better fit the gameplay style and since you could run faster than sanic the heugh this wasn't a problem.

tl;dr they should have sized down the rooms just a teensy bit to suit the new movement style.

DarkPlaces is pretty, and adds some cool effects, as well as full-dynamic lighting (you can turn it on/off), but some purists insists that it alters original physics in some way. I duno about that though. Also it is the most moddable one, so it's kinda like GZDoom analogue for Q.

Plays all the mods, and has some made specifically for it.

Also GLES Port of Doom/Heretic is absolutely terrible. Avoid it like plague. It requires converting the game resources to play, and the convertion leaves compression artifacts on sprites and textures. Also it is incompatible with some devices and there's no way to tell until you try it. Thing is, different versions have different compatibility issues, so if older version works right, it doesen't mean that later version will work as well after update (happened to me) and vice versa.

That being said, I should set up Darkplaces again on my current PC. I do miss some Quaking along with all the Doom going on.

I'm a bit tired at the moment, so I only played the first two maps, but so far it's pretty nice.

I think you're being a bit tough on yourself on the visual front, most areas look pretty nice actually. I find it sometimes suffers from a bit of monotony, but that comes with the Quack textures. You have lots of lighting variation, which is pretty nice.

I think that some of the hallways are a bit too tight, but that's really just me speaking from what I prefer. The monster placement varies in quality from being good, to just holding down the fire button and running forward, to outright dickish (not a bad thing) That teleporting caco/imp trap in map02

Overall I like it anon! Keep up the good work. I might add to this a bit more in the morning

Alright, I gave this Project Brutality mod a run.

The monsters are indeed brutalized, but the brutalisation is inconsistent - for instance some zombies turn back to the default variant briefly when they roll or are kicked, Pinkie variants drop regular pinkie arms when gibbed, and not the arms of their own kind, and other stuff like that.

Also it could be easily made to work properly with 1.8.10, but it wasn't. Now if you run it with 1.8.10 some of the new monster bodies become impassable to bullets for whatever reason, and that problem isn't there with 2.1, probably some retarded flag or whatever.

Now, following Mark's tradition, weapons are "borowed" from all kind of places, mostly DoomNukems works, and some of mechanics are directly taken from WildWeasel and PillowBlaster, and, again, following Mark's tradition - I don't see a credits file anywhere, neither in the "guide" file provided.

Now, there's indeed SOME credits on the help screen, but DoomNukem, WildWeasel and Pillowblaster aren't mentioned anywhere.

I've been saying this for weeks. Zandronum's dark past that made people think of it as a reskinned Skulltag is no more, the devs are aiming at ZDoom 2.7.1's code (which is arguably the most performance-friendly version that some sectors in our community can make it run on their PCs), and if they release it before ZDoom gets proper netcode for multiplayer, it'll be the most widely installed Doom sourceport in the world. MBF/Boom/ZDoom format compatibility, Doomseeker plugin, Best-Ever, the most active multiplayer base in the community...

(Oh no I won't be able to run Russian Overkill: Glam Metal Edition! Big deal.)

Because the majority of said wads and mods don't really NEED new assets to catch people's attention.

And if they actually develop new, unseen graphics, they will more than likely be asked to be used in other people's mods, with a few changes if it were necessary.

Hell, even Adrian Carmack reused lots of graphics in Doom, he managed to sneak a same texture in three different games

Zandronum is based on an older version of zdoom that doesn't have all the features the newer ones do, so zandy can't play wads utilizing those. IIRC one of the main zandronum limitations are related to defining, using and storing information like variables and such, particularly between levels. That's why you see a lot of mods using "dummy items", where the player is given an "item" that's really just a value which can be checked for in ACS. Other than that I'm not sure exactly what zandronum lacks, but it's kind of a lot.

Duke is the fucking most entertaining character in Samara for me.

I don't know why but it's such a strange breath of fresh air to hear your character speaking after playing a silent protagonist for so long.

Idk it just feels strangely good to hear a sound other than the usual grunts of pain.

Plus his quips are sometimes hilarious and so fucking satisfying.

B.J. blasts his way through multiple facilities, castles and otherwise, killing countless soldiers, dogs, ghosts and even cyborg supersoldiers and Hitler along the way. And with Spear of Destiny, he even basically kicks Death's ass.

Doomguy clears one of Mars' moons of Demons, dies and goes to Hell, clears another moon while there, climbs down to Hell, kicks their asses, goes to Earth and kicks all the asses there too, and then goes back to Hell again. And if you consider Doom 64, he returns there a third time once and for all and then stays in Hell forever, to make sure the demons never rise again.

If both Doomguy and Blazkowicz were in the same game together (Samsara aside), pretty much nothing would live except them.

I hope he does put them up in the Amazon store eventually.

For now, D-Touch on mobile is surprisingly doing its job surprisingly well, at least for the vanilla WADs. Shit's fucking great even on touch.

An alternate reality where Doom never quite catches on, and a a library of mods and levels for Chex Quest builds up for over 20 years. Such treasured wads as:

Chexen
honey_nuts.wad
Bazoikian Overzorch
Shut Up And Starve
ChexRL Arsenal (+ ChexRPG)
Pacifist Chex (a mod by Sgt. Mark IV that's considered to be even Chexier than Chex)
Chex 64 TC (Chex64EX remains the definitive experience)
Samsara (Doomguy, called a clone of Chexter, will have the Super Shotgun that was planned for by iD Software, but never added to Doom II)

After Chex Quest's success, Digital Café would move on to their next big FPS title: Qwisp[/spolier]

prboom-plus has built in soundfont support.
Did you compile it yourself or are you using a prebuilt Windows binary? If the latter, then this may or may not be true.
Edit prboom-plus.cfg :
snd_midiplayer "sdl"
snd_soundfont "path/to/soundfont.sf2"

Save, and restart prboom-plus, enjoy.

The gameplay doesn't change and so far the story hasn't changed much either. Wyatt gets replaced by Fergus and J gets replaced by Tekla. Other than that everything has been exactly the same so far.

>> No.2489101

>>2489096
There is no changes besides what you listed and whether you get Health/Armor upgrades.

>> No.2489118

>>2489101
Actually there's a different route or two - but only throughout the entire game, not per chapter or so forth. Real wasted potential, it felt like they basically were working with the Wyatt timeline first as the game's original design intent and then slapped in the Fergus timeline for forced replayability.

It'd explain why some of Fergus' lines just don't seem to match up here and there, particularly his long snarky monologue at the magic jew tech vault.

Ehh, I was kind of disappointed my second playthrough due to how much of it is the same (Though I did enjoy not-Jimi-Hendrix)
But Deathshead's brain robot in the end more than made up for my second playthrough.

Oh, that's right. I forgot about the health/armor upgrades.
>>2489118
It's pretty disappointing. I expected the timelines to bee similar but not THAT similar. It feels tacked on. Even Cowadoody did multiple timelines way better than TNO did, with Black Ops 2.

>> No.2489193

>>2489139
Well, that's actually implied to be the real Jimi Hendrix in-story, even if subtly.
