What's /vr/'s personal favorite CRPG or any RPG before 1999

>> No.2479323

Definitely Fallout. Earlier than that, Daggerfall. Generic answer I know but god damn, they're so fucking good.

Realms of Arkania: Star Trail. I loved this game soooo much when I was a kid. The ability to make your party and all was standard, but the battle system was different. And the fact you could travel through town and the map and have random shit happen to you.

I had a pirated version back then, so never could finish because you couldn't save. And yet, I played the game from the begining so many times that it was borderline autistic.

I finished it a few years ago. Still great game, though a bit disappointed with some stupid stuff you must do in it to proceed. Shadows over Riva was also good, though more in a dark way. Star Trail was more standard fantasy.

I don't like the main franchise much, but Martian Dreams is something special. Sci-fi rpgs were a rarity back then.

Betrayal at Krondor.
Much text. So flavor.
Good music, too. Combat can get pretty intense for turn based. Casting anything powerful was always tense.

So far, Might & Magic 2 - the game is so ridiculous and broken, I love it so much. I'm yet to play a bunch of other classics from this era like Ultima 5 and 6 or Pool of Radiance, as much as I enjoy old CRPGs.

Darklands. It's excellent especially with the manual, one of the best manuals ever.

Man, I still have that game stored somewhere at home. I never liked it, but teenagers are fucking cunts anyway. I might enjoy it today.
