/vr/'s opinion on the Neo Geo X?

>> No.2452964

Is shit.

>> No.2452972

It's a bad emulator on an underpowered Android device that can't even run most of its games properly. Even the stick isn't worth the price.

>>2452942
waste of money, I know I was stupid enough to buy one at launch

>> No.2453009

Emulated Chinese shit.

Avoid.

wow, what a disappointment, it looked cool as shit but whatever.

It's not even good enough for Metal Slug?

>> No.2453046

The Neo Geo X Gold was a mistake.

A thinly veiled attempt at a cashgrab that put all its chips on nostalgia and none on quality hardware or software.

>> No.2453047

>>2453025
Nope. You'd be better off spending your money on pretty much anything else to get your NeoGeo fix. Grab a Raspberry Pi, head over to /diy/ and build your own little mini-cabinet.

2453116

It's a cheap crappy ARM board running FBA. Games are stored on an internal SD card, hidden to the user.

That's illegal on so many levels.

>Emulated Chinese shit.
Tommo inc. is an American company which was briefly given a license by SNK Playmore to make this shitty little cash grab. Hardware was probably made in China though.

>> No.2453596

I was stupid enough to buy it too. The whole nine yards. An extra joystick too. I was really disappointed. The handheld had a nice feeling to it too. I liked the stick on that. Clicky. Otherwise, it's garbage.

>> No.2453604

Had one. I actually really liked the handheld. The buttons and clickstick were very nice and the games played well. Probably my favorite way to play Real Bout.

The bad:
Software issues like not able to save in some games like Magician Lord and not being able to add credits make it impossible to finish, the number of games you could play was limited, and the way the games were vertically scaled to fit a an HD television made it look like complete garbage. Though I heard that if you bought the first megapack game it came with a software update that fixed some of these issues.
Hardware issues like how the system wasn't designed for what it's being used for. It has a 16:9 screen yet only plays 4:3 games. Unused shoulder buttons. Mine also had only one working speaker.

Originally I was interested in the device because it seemed like something nice destined for homebrew, but then I learned that they pin swapped the SD card slot just to aggravate anyone trying to load a standard SD card. So no homebrew. Later I learned that the device is based off a Russian emulation handheld called the Ritmix RZX-50 and runs a modified version of Dingux, the Linux firmware mod for the Dingoo A320, while playing Neo Geo games through the FinalBurnAlpha emulator. NGX creators give no credit to the original software developers. While researching this I found about the Dingux's community hardware project the GCW-Zero and got that instead to play Neo Geo games. But I do miss that clickstick.

isnt that an even older architecture?

this is just ridiculous

Name one handheld not made in China.

>> No.2453618

>>2453190

>Are fucking kidding me?

Nope. The medium it uses are normal SD cards, just transposed. They then just put a load of roms on a normal SD card and installed it as the system's memory it reads from.

>>2453596

Don't forget the docking station in which you cannot dock the handheld but OPEN it up and connect the handheld to a headphone jack acting as a through port. ROCKET SCIENCE!

>> No.2453649

>>2453614
try reading,

While the system has the trappings of a knock off device, fact of the matter is this was a product officially licensed by SNK Playmore, they resposible for quality control along with Tommo.

>> No.2453654

>>2453009

That's an insult to emulated Chinese shit. You can get perfectly good Chinese handhelds for far less than the Neo Geo X.

better hardware too

actually I misslinked. I meant that post to be directed to the post it was referring to, but didn't correct it because I thought it would get sorted out. Anyways, Tommo is the American distributor. Basically they have a direct link to the factory in China where the devices are made and place orders. SNK thought the device was hurting their brand and sent a cease and desist to Tommo. But the contract makes the officially licensed Neo Geo X and products not subject to the SNK intellectual copyright. So as it stands the Neo Geo X is officially licensed and SNK tried to stop production but couldn't because it's no longer in their hands.

yes, but it's quite versatile. Probably one of the better known examples of MIPS is the PSP handheld series.

what a massive fuckup. not sure why anyone, most of all SNK, trusted the manufacturing prowess of mail-order reseller
