Tell me your choice emus for the PlayStation 2.

Note: this is about emulating other systems on a PlayStation 2. Not about emulating the PS2 on a PC.

Are there any emulators which support 240p output?

It can't even run MOST NES games right, even mario games run like shit.

Again, get an original Xbox. It can emulate everything up to the PS1 with virtually no issue, and the fact it uses USB controllers means with a little leg work you can get each consoles controller working on it.

>>2449856

OG Xbox or Wii.

I like the Wii better for more controller options (I like using the wiimote sideways for famicom/PCE games, it feels just right) and the 240p output which the Xbox lacks, goes down as low as 480 only.

Also the entire virtual console catalogue which is a shitload of NES, SNES, Genesis, PCE, even Neo Geo are perfect emulation.
Wii scene is also huge as fuck so there are many good emulators outside of the official VC (finding WADs for the VC is aslo pretty easy so no need to pay either)

>> No.2449878

>>2449874
Keep in mind the original Xbox used USB for it's controller interface so, assuming you have EvoX installd, you can just drop the appropriate driver into the appropriate partition and use any USB gamepad

>>2449796

I know for a fact that Wii emulators can output at 240p and it looks pretty damn good. The Wii is easily hacked and has a variety of controller choices. The Wii U scales the output when the vWii is used though.
tl:dr try a Wii, especially for 240p.

>>2449873

I have an Xbox here but I don't think it does 240p. Are USB HID controllers only for emulators?

>> No.2449880

>>2449879
I would assume they only work on emulators and homebrew, but don't quote me. All I know is you pretty much find the driver for Windows2k, assign a specific name to it, and drop it into the right spot. I remember thinking "OH SHIT! I can finally use a PS1 controller to play SNES on the Xbox!" when it was figured out.

I'll try and answer your question without considering that there are tons of better option than emulating on a PS2.

From my personal experience, the only emulator that works with no issues(and mind that with "works" i mean exactly that, it works, it does its job of letting you play the games...it works just like ZSNES works, no word on how it does or on how accurate it is) is Commodore64 and GB-GBC.
All the rest is only worth it if you'r eloking for a very occasional play with some very popular games.
NES: it either works too fast(SMB1 says 60fps, but everything goes much faster than on an original NTSC-US NES) with sound desync, or on correct speed with garbled sound and constant sound desync.
SMS: works, if you're lucky with no major issues, but most likey it'll freeze or resets itself after 10-15 min of playing. Some "solved" this issue using savestates, but then you have an higher chance of it freezeing right when the savestate is created, ending up with a corrupt savestate.
GB-GBC: works, no major issues. Hoever, completely ignore Pokemon games: the clock works as he wants, sometimes, after loading a save, you'll find out it went forward many hours or days even if you saved and quit 20 min earlier.
All this when it saves, because mos ttimes it just wont.
Savestates in Pokemon games will just mess things around causing errors.
SNES: works with quite a few major famous games, if you're ok with the sound and lag doing some jumps every minute or 2(when friends wanted to play SF2 or SuperBomberman 2, we played fine ignoreing those jumps)
Genesis/Megadrive: hit and miss, 70-80% miss.
Nothing works but playing, aka no saving or savestates, either because the most stabel version of the emu doesnt support savestates yet, or because the version that does wil end up with corrupt savestates.
Ingame saves, when present, only lead to corrupt saves or no saves at all.
Amiga: huge hit and miss, where hits are so hard to properly configure is not even worth trying it

There is, but that's also an emulator and I can't vouch for its accuracy. If you want to play PS1 games on a PS2, you either use a modchip or use a soft mod and a swap trick.

I'm pretty sure it's just a stock option when you have the memory card mod. My PS2's power buttons broke like two years ago so I'm foggy, but all it really did was allow you to open the tray to do the swap rather than using the key to open it.

Nah, like I said, the way I always had it working was start the program, put in a retail PS1 game, hit either X or O to open the tray, insert the backup, and hit start.

There are a few PS1 games that aren't compatible with the PS2:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_games_incompatible_with_PlayStation_2

Probably the biggest advantage is that the PS2 can output PS1 games through component. Since RGB never caught on as a standard in the US (only available on PVMs, ect) Audio/Video enthusiasts in North America were limited to S-video as the best quality video signal until the PS2 came out. After that, users could play PS1 games through YPbPr on high-end consumer sets.

The PS2 outputs RGB as well if you have the appropriate SCART cable, and can send 240p signals over RGB and YPbPr.
