Me too. I think people don't because they don't understand the (admittedly weird) controls. They're good once you get the hang of them.

I literally just got my model 2 Saturn in the mail and it's making a weird but quiet noise like a ticking but not the trying to read a CD kind. Any idea what this could be? The only game I have to test is a golf game which plays OK.

Hell yeah they are. The original is kind of dated at this point, but still worth a playthrough, and Zwei is pretty heavily involved in the plot of Saga. (Even though the order of games chronologically is 2 > 1 > Saga).

Both Zwei and Saga are two of my favorite Saturn games. Fucking fantastic setting and art.

Also OP I'd give you more recommendations but they've pretty much already mentioned the essentials. If you like arcade games (shmups, fighters, racers, etc) then you got the right system. Saturn (And Dreamcast for that matter) are godlike for arcade games.

Really? All I hear about SotN on the Saturn is negative, though I haven't checked myself.
What's improved?

>> No.2431239

>>2425303
Sega should have canned the 32X mid development, and put those resources into preparing for better Marketing of the Saturn as well as porting Knuckles Chaotix, Darix, DOOM, MK 32X, and a sports game or 2 to either the Sega CD or Saturn. Saturn should have either had one ARM as a CPU, or dual CPU's Comprising of one 90's NEC CPU, and an early version of the AMD.

>> No.2431252

>>2431223
From what I remember it has 2 new areas, more monsters and a new boss. Dunno why it gets flack.

>> No.2431262

>>2431252
Because in my experience from playing both versions, the saturn version has slowdown. There is an interesting theory on why the saturn (a system that handeled 2D sprites very well) version of SotN ( "2D" sprites) has slowdown.

>> No.2431284

>>2431239
The dual cpu was the least of the Saturns problems. In fact it was the only thing in it design wise that was both powerful, cheap, and made sense to use.

>>2431223
SOTN has ridiculous slowdown, the graphics look more pixelated, a shitload of special effects are downgraded (basically everything that was transparent now looks horrible) or sometimes outright missing, and it has worse load times (especially in the menu/map).

It has 2 new areas complete with new enemies and music, 2 extra familiars (upgraded devil and fairy, they were also in a later Playstation re-release), and an extra button to quickly use items.

If you play it through an emulator, you won't get that much slowdown, but the real console has a LOT of it.

>> No.2431345

>>2431262
>>2431284

That's probably why I never really saw any problems with it. I emulated it and played the PS1 ver of SOTN much earlier so I probably couldn't compare it proper.

>> No.2431374

>>2426651
biggest problem is that the game's entire difficulty comes from the controls
once you get used to them (play as Knux), you will have 100%'d the game 30 minutes later, its crazy easy

>>2431262
IIRC, the issue was that the porting team didn't know jack shit about the Saturn's design when making it.

>>2431239
>Sega should have canned the 32X mid development
They really should have.
It was a silly idea thought up when some guy at Sega of America thought it'd be longer than it was for the Saturn to actually come out and thought consumers would appreciate not spending an extra $50 per Genesis game if it wanted to have extra hardware. SoJ gets a hold of it, throws a bunch of Saturn design into it (which was an awful idea, causing major supply issues, turning what would have at least broke even into an abject failure), and releases the thing in the States the same month the Saturn comes out in Japan.

Should have been canned once the Saturn's near release was discovered by SoA and all 32X projects moved to the Saturn (wouldn't even be too hard actually -- they wouldn't even need to be heavily re-written to actually use Saturn hardware, you can use the same software framebuffer drawing as on the 32X, most major issues would be sound code and drawing backgrounds (which was handled by the Genesis half on the 32X)).

>>2425414
fucking this

Panzer Dragoon is one of those games that shows you right out the gate how great the Saturn is. Looks pretty decent, awesome sound track, and it's just fun.
Haven't played much of Zwei, it's more of the same but better. First game is a pretty straight arcade game, really.

>Wing Arms

If you don't have the flight stick, you can also use the 3D Pad, which is pretty sweet. I recommend the Expert-2 setup since you can use the triggers to yaw.

Powerslave also work with it, which makes the game pretty sweet.
