It's incredible how you can love/hate some games while playing them, but then after 4-6 months you end up loving them almost as if an emotional link has been established with the characters.

This happened to me with shenmue.
I guess this can be a thread about these kind of games

Best of the games must have some bad elements in them. Otherwise they wouldn't be memorable.

Totally credible. Kids come here and post about it all the time. It's a thing. Has been for quite a while.

100% agree with this.

So that guy who constantly makes sure there's a thread calling the N64 shit secretly pines for the system?

Legend of Dragoon for me.

Why else would he be so dedicated?

Of course Kattfag still exists, but that's a whole different story.

He's a full blown sociopath, not even kidding.
Shame about the BoF threads though.

Nah, Squeenix is pure hate-hate. DQ8 doesn't count because it was developed before the merger was finalized.

I liked DQIX...
then again I had 3 friends to play with.
I also liked the Dragon Quest Joker games.

Earhtbound.

I felt a sort of obligation to play it because of how acclaimed it had become a few years back, and it was a fucking chore. Forced myself to finish it for some reason. Didn't really enjoy it and probably wont play it again.

But when I think back on the game, and the characters, and moments, and all the little things about it, I can't help but feel a great deal of affection and even admiration for the game.

Every year around the time E3 is about to occur I fall for the rumors over Shenmue 3 being a thing and every time I watch all of E3 getting my hopes raised and crushed at every trailer that pops up. When will I learn to stop doing this? It's been 13 years, I just wanna give up hope already so I can be at peace.

Last year was the year I finally gave up. All the effort was put into that year, everyone pushed really hard for S3 to happen. I told myself that if nothing was revealed last year, then that was the end. And so the E3 ended and not even a peep.
I'm still hoping for this year

You know, I don't think I've ever had that happen. There are some games that I gave up on and then decided to revisit at a later time, but I always ended up just remembering why I'd stopped playing.

Other than that they all just end up as games I loved or games I didn't care enough about to finish.
