I went looking for a Crocodile Dundee vidya game and couldn't find one. Why wasn't this great movie ever made into a game. I've seen what looks like some knock offs (Bayou Billy and Down Under Dan) Were either of those games any good? I loved this movie as a kid and I'm super bummed I can't find a game for it. I'm rewatching it on Netflix right now.

A little too early for an NES game, probably. The Goonies II is the only 'Early NES' movie game I can think of, from those first couple years. While there were a lot of movie-licensed games in that day, they weren't nearly as common a thing it would become about 15 years later. Probably lots of comparably popular flicks that didn't get vidya. Certainly lots of cartoons that didn't.

I really try to avoid rewatching this kinda stuff now, because I rarely find that it holds up.

Last Starfighter is still awesome, though.

It's such a bummer. It seems like it'd be perfect for some double dragon style action in NY and some Croc fighting action in the outback.

I guess it's just got a nostalgic place in my heart. I find Croc Dundee really holds up. You can see the chemistry btw the lead characters. Paul Hogan was married to whats her name for 20+ years.

Bayou Billy kinda sorta plays like that. It's not a great game, though.

Speaking of The Last Starfighter... I read something on reddit today about the possibility of a remake.

Personally I don't think it's the type of movie that can be remade well.

If you want to play Bayou Billy, you might try the Japanese version known as Mad City. I haven't played the US version in years, but from what I hear the JP version is much easier. I've played the JP version and it was enjoyable.

I'll look around and see if I can find any translations. I'll be playing with save states either way. That shouldn't make either version too bad.

Was there ever a Bloodsport game made? I'm doubting it but that could have been an epic fighter before street fighter.

Bayou Billy is a lot better if you play the Japanese version, Mad City. For some stupid reason, Konami USA increased the difficulty when they localized it.

>> No.2411189

They didn't want kids just renting the game once to beat it.

Bayou Billy SUCKS, but the Japanese version of it (called "Mad City") is OK.

>> No.2411432

>for some reason

That would be the rental market, which Japan didn't have. A great deal of games are easier in Japan because they didn't have to worry if their gamers finished a game too quickly, because they got paid either way.

In the international markets, they increased difficulty so that gamers would have to either rent the game more often or buy it outright to clear the game.

>> No.2411450

>>2411194
I actually prefer Bayou Billy over Mad City. I don't know why people always bitch about the difficulty. It's cheap in some places, not exactly impossible.

>>2410350
Most localization changes were actually done by the Japanese developers. The US division simply came up with suggestions.

How hard would it be to learn to make a 8/16bit nintendo game from scratch these days. I've needed a hobby project and wouldn't really care if it took me years. Anyone got any resources for where to get started?

>> No.2412480

You do have to give Bayou Billy/Mad City credit: it did a great job creating the intended atmosphere. The music matches perfectly and the graphics are quite nice.

I haven't heard a single opinion on Down Under Dan... was the game just garbage then?
