What does /vr/ think of these retro pack systems? Are they as good as the original hardware?

As good as the big black cock that's currently plunging into my wife

>> No.2407178

They're good if you don't give a fuck about quality or having original hardware.

>> No.2407187

>>2407178
Yeah. You'll be running through them if you play them with any consistency, but they're cheap and do what they're supposed to until they break.

>> No.2407215

They're literally pointless. I don't understand anyone who would buy one. Why would you want to run real games on an emulator? In other words, why would you want to shell out money for physical games just to emulate them on a portable mini-computer when you could just download an emulator and rom for free on your PC or cell phone and play that?

Playing on real hardware is always better.

No. They're no better than a PC hooked up to a TV. If you want to emulate, emulate free.

actually they're even better. I recommend the RetroN 5. it's great, me and my wife play Super Mario Bros. on ours.

Me and my wife love them, they save us a lot of space.

So does this thing come with a wife or not? Supposedly Retron 5 comes with one and according to >>2406725 Retro-Bit comes with one as well.

Been thinking about building a retropie machine (got an old PS1 shell to use, bricked machine). Worried about SD card corruption though.

Hopefully it won't be much of an issue...

SD card corruption happens far less with newer iterations of the Pi (better MMC controller). You'll want a Pi2, running either Retropie, Recalbox, or Lakka. It's a fun and easy project.

I'm mostly worried about my siblings fucking it up (planning on giving one to each for their birthdays)

They're adults, but we live 3000 miles apart, so if they break it I won't be able to fix it for a year or 2.

Just make the sd card accessible.
Keep a back up of the card data you send them.

If they break it, just put the data on a new card and mail it to them.

They'll lose the saves though. But then again, they shouldn't have fucked up in the first place. So fuck it.

>> No.2409135

>>2409132
What the fuck does this have to do with /pol/? These fucking emulators aren't retro in the slightest. Any discussion of them at all is trolling, if you think the poster of this thread was serious you're retarded

These threads are /vr/ territory because you use these console to play /vr/ games. Just like emulator discussion, romhacks, and sourceports are all /vr/ territory. If you think this thread doesn't belong here (troll or not) you're retarded.

>> No.2409153

>>2409148
emulator discussion is pretty self contained in the emulation thread, so is the romhacking thread, both threads have high quality of posts and don't clutter the entire board, I have nothing wrong with that, also sourceports made after 2000 are in no sense /vr/, no more than sequels to retro games are.

Why can't these shitposters just post in the emulation thread?

>> No.2409163

>>2409153
They probably should. Hardware emulation is still emulation. They'll get the same "it's shit" comments though.

Source ports are as much /vr/ as emulation is, though they should probably be kept to their respective games threads too (doom source ports in doom, quake in quake etc).

>> No.2409168

My only experience with the Retron 5 is with NES carts, but it left a bad impression with the build quality. The thing grabbed onto the carts so much that it was a struggle to insert and remove them, I thought I was gonna break something. Eventually I did, and pulling a game out ripped out one of the contacts in the cartridge slot. Also, why no s-video for people who still have CRTs?

>> No.2409192

>>2409168
Because people who use CRTs aren't their target demographic, they assume that people who can understand the quality of CRTs aren't the kind of people who would buy a Retron 5

>emulator discussion is pretty self contained in the emulation thread... both threads have high quality of posts and don't clutter the entire board

I wish this was true. It's impossible to have a discussion about owning/playing real games without emulator people coming in and shitting it up calling us retards. Though, in their defense, it's mostly pro-flashcart people.

>> No.2410119

>>2409163
Retron looks like a simple good looking emulation machine for those that dont mind paying that extra money instead of making it themselves. I would preffer much more if they made a portable version.

Yes, it is worth getting a wife, my ReTron 5 and its wife and I play Super Mario Bros. 3-player on my wife all the time.

If you want an emulation machine, pick up a $60 Wii and a classic controller and spend the ten minutes it takes to hack it. Don't overspend for a crap machine that breaks your carts and doesn't even let you use roms.

>> No.2412249

>>2410917
That's 60 wasted Ameribucks.
Unless your computer is a toaster the cheapest, best perfoming way to emulate on TV is just to plug your TV into your computer. This costs you maybe the price of one VGA cable if you don't have any VGA or HDMI cables lying around already. Costs less than a pint of good beer.

I can get 240p from my wii, my computer outputs 480i in TV mode.
