Ignoring all the memes, this is my favorite game of all time.

not a meme, i genuinely hate it
my cart kept deleting my save up to kreep kastle, never power off your console in that level

well, maybe hate is a strong word, I just dislike it compared to the other games in the frachise

Got an offer to buy both the game and an expansion pak for 30 quid ($50)

Is it worth it? I heard the game plays awful on emulators so I thought I would snatch it up before it disappeared

If you have a Wii U, you can get it on the eShop for cheaper than that.

If not, you might as well. The expansion pak is worth having either way.

I'd highly recommend the game. I like it even more than Banjo-Kazooie.

Sounds good, I was worried I was getting ripped off when the game was offered for half that and then he added the same price again for the expansion pak

I suppose if I ever want Perfect Dark or MM physically it will be a good investment

want a medal for having shit taste brah?

It's not a bad game, but IMHO there's a lot of things to dislike about it. First things that come to mind for me all have to do with the minigames. Like being forced to watch the minigame intros over and over again, and that goofy fuckin announcer voice.

In general the whole atmosphere of the game being more kiddy and goofy than DKC1 and 2. I'm aware it's a game about monkeys jumping on crocodiles, but the SNES DK games still weren't as silly, and they had some places that were really beautiful and/or dark (maybe dark's not the best word, whatevers). That's missing in 64.

>>2404736
That voice is silly, but I love it. I can see how one could think there're too many mini-games. I don't mind them.
I guess I see what you mean with it being more silly than DKC, but I don't know, I like it.
Run around, collect bananas, shoot coconuts, this game has everything.

>> No.2404762

The only thing I didn't like was towards the end. All of a sudden it got hard as fuck, like it didn't even sync up with the rest of the game. Other than that it was great comfy game

I'm not a big fan of Rare platformers in 3D, I don't dislike them, but not a big fan either.
That said, I enjoyed DK64 more than Banjo. To the point I actually completed it 101% with the 201 golden bananas and everything else. I doubt I'll ever do it again, but I had fun with it for what it was.

I still plug in the cart from time to time to play DK arcade.

The main problem with these games is pretty much that they are almost literally *just* a collectathon. There's very little else. The enemies provide little to no challenge and may as well not be there. It's essentially just walking around and collecting stuff. It's barely a game at all.

>> No.2404787

>>2404780
That Puzzle K. Rool boss sure was hard. Other than that, it is mostly collecting, but I enjoy that. I think it's fun to have a big world to explore and just try to find everything.

>> No.2404792

>>2404787

That's fine, and I understand enjoying that to a degree. I'm not here to tell anyone their treasured childhood game is garbage. The music was nice, and the environments were too. It's just from an objective point of view, it wasn't a very good game. It was also very lazy of Rare, who could literally only do one type of game by this point. Doesn't help that it was also broken as hell.

I'm in the same boat but with the opposite relationship.
I find the first Banjo game to be lackluster compared to its peers but at least the game is small and digestible, with compact worlds and minimal minigames. DK64 is just so fucking overboard with everything that it becomes a nightmare after a while.

I forced myself to 101% completion when I was doing completionist runs of the whole DKC series and the only levels I really had any fun with were Jungle Japes and Frantic Factory.

>WELCOME TO BONUS STAGE!

Well, I don't mind that.
But I will never get enough of

>OHHHHH, BANANA!

I love that sound.

Woah there nigga. This game's fun as fuck, but Kazooie has the better worlds, not to mention that there are NPCs besides the 3 kongs that each have their own amusing dialogue and neat sub-stories to them. You don't get the level of connection to your heroes that you do when you see BK interacting with everything.

Still though, this game gets too much flak. It's a great Rare title.

Very good game, I liked it better than Banjo. Controls excellently.

I just don't really have the patience for it as much as I used to. But as a kid, the scope of the game was really something special.

I just can't get past the sheer volume of COLLECTATHON that game has. As a kid it's overwhelming in a good away, as an adult it's overwhelming in a bad way. Plus Lanky and Chunky Kong are just... well, really stupid.

>> No.2410205

played through Banjo Kazooie yesterday and I've been playing DK64 today

as long as you don't try to get every single collectable it's a fun game. I was skeptical if I'd still like it after all these years but as long as I don't ruin it for myself it's a good time. Fuck that beetle race with Tiny in the Aztec level.

pretty much. I was so excited to have 5 playable characters back in the day...
