I can agree on almost everything except for Wario Land 3 and the Zelda Oracle games. Both games just feel extremely slow to me, especially Wario Land 3. It was like playing Rayman (PS1) all over again. Also, the Mega Man Game Boy games were good. Nothing exceptional, but they kept me entertained.

Probably a cliche but mine was this game right here.

I had gameboy since the old grey model and loved a number of games on it, but damn it if pokemon didn't change everything.

Being able to level up your pokemon to battle with your friends during lunch or recess was revolutionary at the time. Pokemon was less of a game and more of a lifestyle, everyone was playing it and talking about it.

As far as portable game design goes, the Pokemon formula is pretty close to perfection.

Plenty of games had saves, though a lot of earlier GB games didn't.

As for recommended games, Donkey Kong '94 and Super Mario Land 2 are both fucking phenomenal and are probably the most underrated and undeservedly forgotten Mario games out there.

In the late life of the GBC password saves were frowned upon, because battery backed RAM carts were cheap enough. Though of course only games that had some kind of long term state bothered with a save system, be it password or battery backed.

Also, you say you're looking for more GB(C) games to play, and mentioned Shantae. What's your motivation, your genre preference? What are you looking for in GB(C) games? The library is huge, and games are played for different reasons

Pokemon Crystal was probably my favorite, either that or Blue version. Link's Awakening and the Oracles follow. Pokemon Puzzle Challenge as well. Super Mario Land 2 and Wario Land 3 were all very memorable for me as well. I also really liked the game and watch gallery 2 or 3 (I don't remember which one I had specifically). I never owned the Yugioh game but i played it with a friend pretty frequently. I also played the hell out of the GBC Space Invaders game. I had both Gex games for the GBC as well, they probably weren't that great in retrospect but I thought they were fun back in the day, except the password save prevented me from ever getting very far because I'd never write them down and didn't play for long.

Also pic related was a huge favorite of mine as well.

Is it worth installing a backlight for the GBC or should i just buy a SP?

>> No.2421610

>>2421128
GBA, including the SP, tends to mess up the color reproduction of GBC games, because of the different LCD. The SP also has its slot on the wrong end, making games like Kirby Tilt'n'Tumble very unfun.
You can not install a backlight on the GBC, since its a reflective LCD, that relies on the light coming in from the front, passing through the LCD layer, being reflected, and passing through the LCD layer again. You can, possibly, install a frontlight though, like the first gen GBA with Afterburner did. That comes with the usual drawbacks (light now needs to pass the light wedge as well, and that wedge is not perfectly transparent). Or you could enjoy a real GBC in a well lit environment.
