What are you favorite rail shooters and why?
Personally, I don't think I've played a rail shooter I've disliked.

Rez is fantastic. The way the music and visuals build with the game work really well, I really like the shooting system, and that final level blew my mind.

Oh, and let's not nit pick what's a rail shooter or not. I don't care if you can move a bit like in Starfox 64 or Sin and Punishment.

>> No.2397996

The last level in Rez is my favorite level of any game ever.

The Panzer Dragoon games are really great too.

Rez was fucking amazing, but I got an astounding blowjob while on acid playing it this one time, so I might be biased.

Night Striker because it has the best vidya OST of all time. OF ALL TIME.

That, and it has a superb 80's cyberpunk aesthetic.

My friend and I always make it a note to play Rez when we trip, and we had unlocked all four levels previously we still liked to play it tripping just for fun.
One of the times we accidentally unlocked the 5th level and somehow even managed to finish it.
Words literally cannot describe how we felt.

this

I thought Rez was super boring actually, I mean yea might be fun if you're tripping balls, but then again so is staring at the ceiling

>> No.2398242

Everyone always talk about Rez but never talk about Child of Eden. It's the spiritual successor and it was buried.

My fav is The House of the Dead 2, but in Windows 7 don't run very well, anyone knows why?

How is Panzer Dragoon a rail shooter?

>> No.2398423

>>2398412
you move on a set path (with few branches in the case of Zwei), you shoot things along that path. the thing that might be confusing you could very well be the changing of viewpoints (y'know, front, sides, back)... but you're still shooting things along a preset path. btw, I haven't played Panzer Dragoon Orta yet. is it any good?

>> No.2398435

I used to play a lot of Thunder Blade.

Orta is great. Might be my favorite PD. Well worth the pick up especially since you can get it for less that 15 bucks.

Personally, I can't get enough of Star Fox 64. Going for high scores is a zen experience. 1805 is my personal best, but one player has gotten as high as 3008.

It''s not strictly a rail shooter, but the gameplay is very similar so it's probably close enough, and I like the game more than any actual rail shooter.

One of my favorite games of all time, Tempest.

>>2398703
I wish Space Harrier 2 were good but it kinda isn't imo. Maybe I'd dig it more if I were playing in 1990. The original OTOH holds up really well.

To be honest, I haven't played SH2 in a long long time. I remember loving it in the Genesis days and back then I thought it held up to the first one pretty well, but I was also a teenager.

I've been playing the 3DS 3D port of the first one again recently though and really loving it. It was getting me hyped to move onto 2, but now I'm a little leery.

Sorry, no. Only ever played with those in the arcades way back when. These days I just use a regular controller and the game is still fun. 2000 and Tempest X are also pretty great.

Used to have this thing in my local arcade

Ate a lot of my coins. which was probably why the seat's almost always free when I wanted to play it.
