I don't think it's a lazy design at all. You have a great core element, the simplicity of the coaster put focus on it and make the coaster feel more natural than some 2000m long track clusterfuck. Sure, it's slightly short and you could possibly add a helix or two but I love the general idea.

First time posting a park here. I wanted to build a park out of only compact coasters, and I think I did all right. I mostly focused on rides and didnt really do much scenery. Some of them probably aren't truly "compact," but none of them exceed 3000 feet in length. I'm gonna post four more close-up pictures but I'm not gonna take a screenshot of every coaster to post. If you want a better view or to see stats of a specific coaster, let me know and I'll take a pic. C&C welcome and wanted.

>> No.2349978

a lot of coasters have those

They're there for a couple reasons. They make the coaster disengage from the chain entirely before descending down the first drop, making it so the front of the train doesn't "hang" down the hill. That way everyone on the coaster experiences the entire hill at speed, not just the back.

It also keeps the chain from wearing out as quickly, since the chain doesn't get pulled on by the weight of the train hanging down the drop.

Having a station suspended high up in midair hardly ever looks good. I get why you've got some of your coasters set up like that (I, however, don't know why you couldn't just place your Twist on the ground) but if you want your park to look good without dealing with scenery too much keep your stations on the ground.

In my experience passengers don't mind having to go up on a chainlift at the start of a ride, so it's at least worth it to experiment with putting your stations on the ground and seeing what it does with your coaster's stats, ride time and income efficiency.

Cheers for the advice the loop coaster was just one I added in quick; it was one I saved from a map where I had zero room to build.

I'm not too sure how to build a Mouse coaster out in the open with no scenery without it looking like shit; I'm probablt going to add scenery to make it an indoors type of ride.

The inverted I was trying to build against the corner of the map and that was the best I could come up as going to the side would have tipped me over the edge of the park and net me the can't build message.

The Horse Ride is from the gentle category and can''t be elevated. I actually forgot it was there to be honest.

Was at Holiday Park again. Only got to ride the EGF 2 times. Not realy satisfying when I think back to my 17 rides last visit. I got there late and they had some difficulties with the restraints.

We got like 2/3rds of the park done in around two months or so, then Segfault & Ridnarhtim (whose turn was up next) died unexpected deaths when their turns were up next and before anybody new could be recruited for the project once it was determined they weren't coming back (since they didn't see fit to tell us) these threads died off entirely and left just myself and Atomik to hold down the fort so the project looked abandoned for a very long time.

Eventually, these threads were resurrected and I found them and somebody held a park building competition. Fridolin and Hemicentetes did some very impressive jobs on their parks so I invited them to come work on the park and get the project restarted because I wasn't about to just give up because of a little setback. Hemi did half a part and then also died, not giving us the courtesy of telling us he wasn't coming back so he was eventually replaced with Posterfig who took almost as long per part as a dead person.

He did eventually get his parts done along with Fridolin though, with the final one being completed on the 2nd anniversary of when ground was broken on the park and we all first began.

Thinking about it now, there was also another guy in the very early days of the park (first week) who went 4th or 5th, did a really crappy job (it was a metal box building with a coaster haphazardly going through it with next to no scenery), didn't want to change it / was very resistant to change so in the end we booted him off and carried on without him after reverting his changes.

Generally, closed loops away from the main path system are a very bad idea. Guests don't see transport rides as means to get places, so if one guest decides to head for the mini golf while underground, they'll be stuck until they give up, and by then, they'll be bored and probably hungry.
As more guests do this, they make it more crowded, and crowds make guests angry, and after a while you have a large flock of angry, tired people wandering around ruining the area for anyone else.
You should never intentionally trap guests like that if you want a good park rating.

Another view that doesn't cut out everything.

I was told that it is hard to make woddies look disgusting, but life finds a way...

>> No.2374931

>>2374910
In my experience, woodies are way easier to make look disgusting than other coasters, at least when tightly packed like that. The supports really get in the way and crowd the rest of the scenery, and it's way easier to make them look good for out-and-back layouts. Someone compared wound up woodies to meatballs, and I'd have to agree with them.

It helps a lot to build a ride that flows with the landscape or some scenery. Granted, in your scenario, it's very difficult to do that with landscaping, so I recommend working on shaping up your building ability. You should be looking for a way to make scenery which unifies with your ride. Look at some different kinds of architecture/landscaping designs for inspiration, play around, and see what works and what doesn't. You don't need scenery design that rivals Shaft but you should at least make sure your scenery works with your ride (and that if it doesn't work, it doesn't work for a reason).

Additionally, it's good to see you being adventurous with your color harmony, but you ought to learn what works and what doesn't (though some might argue that I'm not the most qualified to say this).

TL;DR The more you play around, the more interesting stuff you get. Learn the rules so you can break them, etc.

>> No.2374937

>>2374903
>>2374910
Bright clashing colors are a bad idea, especially for wooden coasters. Making them exceedingly tall is also generally pretty ugly. The floating structures look pretty weird and the design of the coaster itself is frankly rather poor.

Successfully striking... I'd say do contrast with the landscape or between the coaster and scenery, not within. The best way is just to come up with something that looks nice without being basic. That's not really something one can be guided toward though - it requires experimentation. Just throw stuff together in a small scale to see what can work together, then expand into something interesting that isnt just a big box.

couple of noob questions
1) what are the easiest coasters to design and get 7+ excitement?
2) is 7 the "magic number" for excite or is it a ratio of excite/intensity/nausea?
3) how much does scenery affect excite ratings? does it have to actually be aesthetically pleasing or can i just stack a bunch of stuff together?
4) do you put Do Not Enter signs on ride exits if they don't lead to something else?

2) Magic number? For what? You just want a high excitement, and the a good way to do that is get inensity up but not over 10
3) Up to 1 or 2 excitement I think. Just throw a bunch of Mr. Bones's and coliseums in there and you're good :)

too lazy to answer anything except for #1

Hyper Twister, Giga coaster, Hyper coaster

>> No.2374993

>>2374976
1) Hyper-twister coaster, giga coaster, spiral coaster, and twister coaster are good types to start with for 7+.
2) As far as magic numbers go, you want excitement to be as high as possible. A general rule of thumb is to get the coaster's intensity between 4 and 7, but any intensity up to 9 is okay. We can go a bit more in-depth if you'd like.
3) The game treats most scenery the same, but the surroundings/ landscape/scenery near the coaster can boost the excitement by quite a bit. A good coaster can usually gain an entire point of excitement from scenery alone. You should always try for something that looks good, otherwise everyone will point and laugh because you just plopped 25 base blocks next to the station.
Other things that boost excitement include nearby rides, shops/stalls, water, tunnels, and hills.
Another good trick is to put a building around the station. Placing scenery around a station is an effective way to raise the excitement value.
4) Putting No Entry signs on paths that lead to exits is good practice, but only really necessary if the path is a long dead end up to the exit.

that's an interesting idea, but i'm almost positive that nobody would have done that because of the daunting scale of that task. you'd have really messy looking and playing scenarios before it got refined, and even then there'd be a good deal of algorithms required to make the scenarios play well, let alone look passable.

i think RCT2 had enough problems built in and OpenRCT has enough benchmarks to reach already for nobody to really want to deal with the logistics of that. you're welcome to try.

It's a pain in the ass. Here's an image of the ways you can thread one with diagonals for both inverted and normal track (inverted track is a fraction of a unit taller than normal track, which makes it harder to work with). Yellow is sub-optimal, as you can't bank the track, while green works great. You can always lower the track even farther down, but then it's going under rather than threading.
