Is there a way to play Diablo 1 on GNU/linux natively? Also, besides console emulation, what can I play on a GNU/linux machine? Ubuntu, to be more specific.

Have you tried WINE?

>what can I play
Everything on Steam
Anything that works in WINE
Quake III Arena (Native on CD, as well as sourceports)
Doom, Doom II, and the other games on that engine (sourceports)

Isn't playonlinux better, since it's directly developed towards games? I have Doom here. Will try quake 3. What do I need, just the CD image?

It's basically just a WINE frontend. It automatically performs workarounds and bugfixes and such for each game. Not that many games are supported in my experience, but it's pretty convenient for ones that are.

For the original native version? Yeah, I guess. I've only played it with a sourceport, ioquake3. For that you just need the file pak0.pk3 and the CD key.

Yeah, I googled and found this source port. Don't wanna play online, just have some shooting arena fun. Gonna try to get it working here now. Will report back later.

DOSBox also works natively.

Fuck, bad image. Why do people even upload these unofficial isos?

I try to stay away from dosbox as much as i can.

I think I fucked up ioquake installation beyond repair. Anyway to restore my packages and settings to a previous date?

Why?

Not unless you backed it up, chum. Copy your save files and reinstall.

I usually find their workarounds don't work, but I can dig around in their scripts to get hints.

Sometimes I dl a game, fuck around with it for hours to get it to work, then don't even want to play it.
Still pretty entertaining though.

I think I got it this time. Wait a sec.

>Why?
Whenever i try to run Dosbox and change the in-game keybinds I end up fucking the terminal binds together with it.

I think that's what we all do when on a linux system. Fucking around with the system is way too fun.

GOT IT! It wouldn't let me copy pak0 to the folder, and all I had to do was open it as administrator. Boy, am I stupid sometimes.
