Is it possible to still find retro games at garage sales or have those balls been completely drained?

>> No.2379818

It is possible, but statistically unlikely.

>> No.2379819

No. The retro scene is alive and chances are people get up at the crack of dawn to visit garage sales and flea markets to snatch up all the good games. That's not always the case though.

The older I get the closer the younger generation comes to outright homosexuality with their slang.

This. I find a decent lot maybe once a month waking up at around 645 am and going to garage sales no later than 7am. You basically have to be lucky enough to be the first to arrive at a sale with games. All the resalers swarm the garage sales as early as they can. Last lot I got was about a month ago a mini snes with 16 games for 30 bucks. Every time I go out I hear from at least 2-3 sales that they had games but sold them first thing.

Another thing... Today had a lady tell me she had a wii and 3ds with a bunch of games she sold everything for 30 bucks. Also last week a guy told me he had a snes with 20+ games he sold everything for 20 dollars. So it is possible to hit it big if your persistent. I had an insane haul once from a lady about a year ago and spent 40 dollars for everything was 50+ gba classic games ( pokemons, Zelda, Mario, etc), 4 game boys, sega genesis with 36 games, n64 with 20+ games. Pic is a boxed n64 I got for 20 bucks right down the street from where I live about half a year ago.

I really do not know. With shows like Pawn Stars or Storage Wars I'd imagine you get and increase in both people who try to hit yard sales to find stuff to resell and similarly people who sell at yard sales are possibly more likely to research the value of their old "junk."

Compound this with the fact that so many people have internet access and so many people have smartphones, it is easier than ever before to be an educated reseller/garage saler. Back, say, a decade ago when most people didn't have quick, easy to use, 24/7 internet access via their phones they had to know something about what they were trying to buy to resell before they left the house, otherwise it was just too risky. Nowadays you can be an internet pricing "expert" within seconds for just about anything you happen to see at a yard sale or flea market. The risk of thinking something is worth something only to buy it and find out it is worth less than you paid is significantly reduced, with the logical conclusion of all this being that there are likely more people trying to make easy money from flipping other people's junk (and more people trying to make bank from their junk).

But that is just speculation. I don't even bother with that stuff really. Most of the stuff I really want is of the rare import variety, and the idea of waking up before dawn on Saturdays for a slim chance to find something I only partially want just isn't very appealing.

Good points. There is still a lot of cool stuff to find at garage sales though. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt and don't just look for games btw. Today I picked up a box full of a bunch of 8 track cassette tapes for 10 bucks and also a wood working vise for 5. If you just want games then I'd say just use your money to buy them from online sources or local retro shops. There is a lot of competition for games at garage sales these days. Pic is snes lot I got for 10 bucks about 2 months ago

You have to target the rich neighborhoods. I bought a Mario 64 DS, starfox 64 DS, and super mario 3d land for 12$ for the lot. And I bought a DS for 20$ from the same lady. She just didnt care, just wanted it gone. I just happened to stumble upon the garage sale in the middle of the afternoon too. Great day.

Nice advice. Got a psp 1001 that had never been opened with a game for 20 bucks in a rich neighborhood before.

They're still out there. I got these at a flea market today for $1 each. I don't have a 5200, though, so it looks like I'm in the market for one now.

Cool, here are my pick ups today.
$10 and Pilot wings has its manual intact and a plastic cover on the cart.
Clue also has a manual, but Vegas Stakes and Wheel of Fortune don't. And of course the two controllers.
Already had Mario and Pilot Wings but not Pilot Wings in the box, also Mario had a plastic cover so why not?
Also bought Hybrid Heaven for $6~ which is a bit much, but I didn't mind.
Planning to go to a flea market tomorrow, but I'm probably not going to get much. Hope to fuck over a reseller and catch him slipping prices on games, if I can. Any obscure games that I can get under his nose? Even a reseller must slip on pricing.

>tfw garage sales used to happen all the time in my neighbourhood rife with retro games.
>10 years later and there are almost no garage sales, most of the middle class has moved out and the neighbourhood is full of crime.

Showed up about 20 minutes before a flea market at a local church was supposed to end. Wasn't expecting to find shit.

Found a box surrounded on all sides by yarn with this in it. $8 total.
This year is already turning out better than the last.

The concept of garage sale is so alien to me
Is it mostly american thing? And does it happen every day or something

>> No.2381142

>>2381135
I'd assume so. Basically people sell their unwanted stuff: happens on weekends.

>> No.2381469

>>2381135
Not every day, rather on the weekends (Friday and Saturday are the days with the most sellers).
Also, headed out today and overpaid on a lot of things, particularly at the Flea Market. Also thinking of buying Secret of Evermore from a guy there but he's selling it for the Amazon pricing, like $35.
I think I'm gonna bring him down to $25 or something, or at least garner up some deal where I can get that game and a shitty one just so it doesn't feel like I spend more than I should've. I know Evermore is a good game, but if I wanted online prices, I'd buy it online,

>> No.2381759

It usually happens on weekends, but a lot of towns will have a specific weekend once a year in the spring where everyone has simultaneous sales so you could go to dozens in a day.
