I feel Gen Sparkster is the best of the three rocket night games, but most people are familiar with either the first game on Gen or the SNES version. Now the game is going for $40+, but I rarely see people talking about it.

Operation C is in my option was the best portable Contra game until Contra 4 came around.

Ranger X can still be picked up easily for under $20. I feel once people realize how great of a shooter it is, its price can shoot up.

And Super baseball 2020 is just plain old fun. If you liked any of the mutant league games, you'll like this.

Yeah, tons of good GB games get overlooked.

Incidentally, is Kwirk any good? What kind of game is it? I ask because I saw a copy at a game store the other day for 3-4 bucks.

And if you're a money-to-burn type and have a Neo Geo, you should naturally go for Super Baseball 2020 on there, being the original platform and all.

Puzzle Boy's main mode involves getting to a level's end goal by moving around blocks (rotation and pushing) + filling holes with 'em. You're scored based on time and number of steps taken, assuming you reach a level's end. Really cool puzzler for an early GB title, more worthwhile and meaty (I haven't mentioned the other two modes) than Boxxle.

>> No.2354576

>>2354568
At it's core, it's a puzzle/maze game. You must push blocks and turnstyles to make paths for yourself to the exit. I'd definitely pick it up next time you're at that store.

No doubt about that. SNK put out some pretty good Genesis ports for those of us who didn't have thousands to spend on arcade hardware back in the day.

>>2355658
Good series, Wonder Boy. Definitely look into Monster World IV as well, which has a modern professional English translation in the PS3 and Wii Virtual Console download version of the game.

One that I've never seen mentioned on here but is pretty cool is the NES game WURM. It's like a fusion of shoot'em up, platformer, RPG, and something else (been a while since I played it tbh). It wasn't the longest or hardest of games, but it was pretty neato.

Also, For the Frog the Bell Tolls is pretty good, if only for its immense amounts of charm. Link's Awakening fans should play it to see what that team did before making LA, and to understand the whole 'frog prince' cameo.

Another one I thought of that I never see anyone talk up is the RC Pro-Am series. Both the NES and GB games support 4-player, though I suggest not playing the latter on a DMG, the picture is too blurry to really know what's going on.

The genesis version is the inferior game IMO. The gameplay only occasionally gets better than acceptable, but worst of all the music just puts me to sleep. It's just so... dreary and slow. The soundtrack of the SNES version is truly rockin' and keeps me pumped as I'm playing it the entire time.

Good points. I guess a big part of it for me is the nostalgia. I haven't actually played the genesis one in years. I have played the snes version recently and it still holds up as an awesome beat em up / adventure game.

Another game I loved as a kid that I never heard talked much about on the Genesis is Red Zone. Not the best game ever, but I like it

old picture

probably one of the ultimate examples of underrated as people commonly parrot it being the worst game ever made.

in reality the game is just too hard and the objectives not clear enough, considering it had 5 weeks of development it's a fucking marvel of atari programming as it has minimal flicker or bugs.

the problem was it was an over ambitious project when it had the tightest deadline of any game made for the system. (average was 6 months per game i think)

ruined the guys career too, which is a shame since he also made the fantastic yar's revenge and also made the indiana jones' raider's of the lost ark game.

>> No.2363142

>>2363137
The REAL problem was it seemed to be the straw that broke Atari's back and it all came tumbling down soon after, only to be buried in a New Mexico landfill. It got the wrap as worst game ever because its perceived to be the one that killed the whole video game industry. Which, let'/s be honest, it partly is.
