Why isn't this one of the most renowned NES games, especially considering the ROM is available for free on one of the creators' websites?

What it did was amazing on the console, it's got excellent depth, a whole three dimensional galaxy, fairly complex combat and stays interesting for ages.

Googling it produces very few results specifically about the NES version, despite it being probably the most technologically impressive. Have any of you played it?

What makes the NES port more impressive than the BBC Micro original or other ports?

Star Cruiser's port to the Mega Drive is also impressive, seeing as it predates Virtua Racing (which had the SVP chip to make it expensive) by 4 years and does polygon visuals adequately.

Seriously. Elite did well enough to begin with to deserve great ports.

Why not start by mentioning what game it is instead of assuming everyone knows what you're talking about.

I hate assholes like you.

It literally says the name of the game on the bottom middle of the screen.

Also, reverse image search.

You not knowing what the game is even called or recognising the imagery sorta proves my point as well.

Star Cruiser was rather ugly though, it was also on the Mega Drive which is a far cry away from the NES.

Gameplay wise, it was also nowhere near as fun as Elite.

The fact that it used wireframes and pseudo-bitmapping on a console that beforehand had been solely the home of 8-bit sprites.

The control system was also impressive considering it used a controller with only 4 buttons and a D-pad.

To be fair, Elite is pretty hard to see on there; you'll most likely only see it if you're looking for it.
Also, one may not think that's the game's name. It could be there to mean other things.

I honestly had no idea this game existed before I picked up Elite: Dangerous. The scale and depth they were able to achieve in a game released in 1984 is simply amazing.
I guess it didn't get much traction outside of Britain, though.

And it was so amazing that they didn't bother improving on it in E:D.

TBH I'm more impressed by the technical achievements of the BBC Micro version being crammed in its entirety into 22KB and running on a much slower processor.

Not at all.

The number of people who know about this game must be in the tens of thousands at most.

Played any of the PC versions? Sucks to hear you didn't enjoy it as much as Elite; the X68k version looks great IMO.
