Because there's not a plain N64 general in the catalog right now.

I need a new AC adapter for my system, can anyone vouch for the quality of this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/261387961367?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It should be fine. Generic N64 power adapters, of all consoles, seem to have a low failure rate, this one bears similarities to a popular and well received generic one on amazon. I'd say pull the trigger, and if it doesn't work, you didn't encounter a huge loss.

I saw Ogre Battle 64 at a local shop and I regret not buying it, as I am falling in love with the visual aesthetic I'm seeing online for it.
But I have never played an SRPG.
Should I get it? What price is unreasonable?

Also, I'm gonna try to clean some of my cartridges for the first time tomorrow and I'm really nervous about it. Any tips?

And lastly, my copy of KI Gold hangs on startup if I have anything plugged into any of my controllers. As soon as I pull out the accessories, the screen finally shows the N64 logo and works normally, even after I plug my rumble pak back in. ...is this normal....?

I somehow must have overlooked that. I'm not necessarily married to ebay though. Could you show me?

Ogre Battle is not really a traditional SRPG, it's really it's own thing. There's not a lot of strategy involved, you form units and point them in directions; it's very hands off. It's certainly a unique title in the N64 library, but there are many more SRPGS available on the PS1 or even the Genesis.

N64s in some regions have a lifetime warranty. Try contacting Nintendo first they might still have some spare AC Adapters to send you for free.

Hah, sure. "Hey, can you send me a free power adapter for a 15-year old console that I picked up used?"

>picked up used

Ayy, this was the first real purchase I ever made 16 years ago. It's just that I noticed some performance degradation and a strange noise coming from it last time I tried to play it and some guy on this board said I should probably stop using it.

I don't know how to solder much less actually own a soldering iron, so it'd be cheaper to just buy a third party replacement than actually learn how and then fix it. I'll call Nintendo though, if only to see how hard they laugh at me.

I've seen it happen. Some international Nintendo warehouses are still filled with spare parts.

A while ago I saw a picture of a bunch of different N64 controllers hanging from a wall and it actually looked really neat. Anyone have the picture I'm talking about and willing to share it?

I'm actually thinking about getting some new N64 controllers. The ones I have now work, but I'd like to have a set of four different transparent ones, and right now I've only got two.

Good timing
Last night me and a friend tried to boot up smash brothers. Didn't work, I thought it was the game and tried a different game.

Tried a bunch of games they all didn't work, it just turns on and the screen is pitch black, occasionally flashes colors a little.
I'm really freaking out, google gave me reseat the jumper/ram pack and clean the cartridge/cartridge-slot but the N64 still isn't working.

Any idea what might be the issue.

Does anyone have experience with analog replacements for N64?
I remember reading that the Gamecube style ones skip steps, are the more traditional style ones similar? Are they closer to the stock?

£3-5, they are common as muck
£10 for perfect dark
£30-35 for smash bros
£40-60-75 for Mario party 1 2 3

Yes and no, basically they will never be as good as they are Chinese and shit, look into doing a proper repair on your stick with epoxy, fixes it permanently and makes it like new.

Nintendo 64 is a great console, it may not have the variety the SNES had, but it had a lot of my all time favorite games!

That makes zero sense. CD-RW tech would have been prohibitively expensive, not to mention easily pirated.

Yeah, Q-tips. But seriously, Q-tips and some rubbing alcohol. Clean the contacts but don't be abrasive.

Try to reseat the AC adapter, and possibly the composite cables to your TV.

If hot monkey poop is what you're after you should've posted Donkey Kong 64 instead.

>> No.2357880

I wouldn't think the N64 ones run at a lower framerate considering they already run really low anyway. I think most N64 games are at 20fps if you are lucky.

Or am I wrong on this?

>> No.2357882

>>2357858
Was that just a monkey poop joke because DK64 is about monkies, or because of the hate for Dk64?
Also, where does the hate for DK64 come from? I'm playing it for the first time right now, and I'm 100% through the first three worlds so far. Nothing but joy so far, does it suck shit later?

>> No.2357883

>>2357880

I don't think Hz are entirely related to framerate. For the most part, the most noticeable thing about PAL vs NTSC is the slower sound. I know this is true for Megadrive and SNES, not sure about N64 or other 5thg en consoles.

I'd believe games like F-Zero X or Mischief Makers still run at steady 60fps on PAL consoles.

>> No.2357885

>>2357882
Both. In terms of platformers it's mediocre. I much prefer the Banjo games. It's also textbook definition of collectathon. an OCD's dream game. A waste of resources that would've been better spent on a true Donkey Kong Country 4, especially considering the Banjo games render DK64 redundant.
