I liked video games
I don't anymore

Did I just grow out of them? Because they're not fun to play. Not new ones, not the ones I've beaten over and over, not these old ones people say are classics and I go back to.

Arino seems to get this weird pleasure out of beating them after hours (or days) of frustration. Is that normal? I'm just frustrated and after I beat it nothing happens, I just think "fuck that section for being so goddamn difficult" and then finally beating the game has no feeling of elation or accomplishment.

I definitely enjoy playing games less than I did ten, fifteen years ago. It's not even that I don't have time, because I spend plenty of time reading about them or watching Youtube speedruns. I just don't really get much satisfaction from them, I'm not sure why exactly. I still really love pinball, but that's about it.

It doesn't really matter that much but I'd recommend it since the show occasionally references past challenges, making it the most spoiler-free way. Plus it's cool to see the various ADs come and go and Arino (very) slowly get better at video games.

You can get "Runner" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcVpXb3qqEU)) licensed on the Jogging Race TV broadcast, but the DVD release? Better swap in some generic Disney pop music, because licensing.

Most of the Tamage game stores have old advertisements posted, licensed products on the shelves, etc. I'm pretty sure that licensing nightmares is why a lot of segments get cut overall.

It's sort of a problem finding titles for these tracks, because they're all over the god damn place. There's like fifteen different variations on titles on the internet because of the way romanizing Japanese works.

On my soundtrack, I had "Sērā-fuku O Nugasanaide" because that was what the YT video had, and it seemed to check out from the very limited knowledge I had. I'll change it to "Sailor-Fuku o Nugasanaide", so that change will be there the next time I do an update.

Speaking of the soundtrack, I've gone and added comments to all the tracks noting where they were used, and there's a few where I'm not sure.

1) Jagged Heart Lullaby by the Checkers. This was on the original soundtrack, and I've heard this was Urakawa's theme, but I can't recall ever having heard the song in the show. It's pretty rad, so that's not a big problem, but still, I'd like to know where this was used.

2) Fire Wars by JAM Project. I think this was used in Famicom Manga Cafe at some point, but I'm not sure.

3) ACROSS THE SKY by Space Cowboy. I know this was used at some point, but I just can't remember where it was.

4) Train-Train by The Blue Hearts. Somebody posted this for me and I just took it in without questioning it, but I can't remember hearing this before. Was it in the Go By Train episode?

>> No.2345470

>>2345437

It was me. Train-train was used at least on one of those game vignettes, you know, which showcased the games of a certain year. I would say it was used in Go by Train episode as well.

Fire wars was indeed in Manga café, right where they show the title of the manga of the episode.

It may be that Jagged heart lullaby was used as Urakawa's theme in some episode that's a DVD release and thus does not have the original audio anymore? Like Ninja gaiden, or some DVD release. I can't remember off-hand where it could be heard.

I'm not sure about Across the sky, but it might be BGM for very early seasons?

I'm sorely disappointed the subbers didn't include the former AD's messages to Arino since it's the last time we got to see Takahashi (she's really looking aged) And Tsurokwa (He can really play the guitar, I thought it was just fake play when he was at Budokan.)

Kan - Our next message of encouragement is from...
Arino - Huh?!
Takahashi - Arino, it's been a long time since we last spoke I was the 5th generation AD, Takahashi.
Screen text - 5th generation AD Sachi Takahashi
Arino - Wonder if she ever became a teacher?
Kan/Screen text - Takahashi, the season 7 AD who supported Arinoand left the show to focus on becoming a teacher.
Arino - She was a heck of an AD.
Takahashi - I'm an elementary school teacher currently.
Arino - No way!
Takahashi - Whenever I draw pictures, the kids tell me "Your drawing sucks!"
Takahashi - Actually, I have an exam to be hired as a teacher today (same day as the broadcast), and I'm doing my best to realize my dreams, so even though these 24 hours will be difficult for you, please do your best!

Besides while Toujima's a cool guy and I'm sure they have mutual respect for each other, I would guess they don't have that much contact outside of the show. They're not childhood friends or anything, just two guys who work on the same tv-show amongst many other tv-shows.

another thing is, one can feel the games after those become more and more casual, so no real thrill to watch. well i think you get it.

But most Famicom games he plays are just rather plain and repetitive platformers, most of the time it's his personality that makes the episodes rather than the game. Besides quiz games are always some of the best episodes, what does it matter whether it's on Super Famicom or Playstation?

In addition some of the best episodes so far have been played on the PS1 as well, like Tokimeki Memorial and Parappa the Rapper. It's a bit too early to be making any kind of calls about the quality of episodes that haven't even been filmed yet for the most part.

I don't agree with this at all, but that's beside the point. They've spent almost ten years playing almost exclusively FC/SFC games, they're starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel with crap like Saint Seiya. I think there's a lot of territory they haven't covered with the Megadrive and especially the PCE, but Japan appears to have the most nostalgia for the Famicom and the Playstation. The PS1 was a huge success there and is very fondly remembered, with many modern classics having originated on the console, similar to how many 16 bit franchises started in arcades or on the FC.

If the show is going to continue to have fresh content, they absolutely need to cover more consoles. Whether or not you think a game is boring doesn't matter so much as how Arino plays it, and the drama and humor that is created by the staff.

No game challenged on GCCX has captivated me like Quest of Ki. That game is fucking ridiculous, I understand what they meant by "hidden masterpiece". The controls are just dodgy enough that you feel like you could master them. The levels are designed so well and yet so cruel; there's usually only one way to complete a stage and you have to perform the actions perfectly. The first 60 stages are nothing, the 40 special stages are the real test. I'm honestly amazed Arino did as well as he did. I gave up on floor 79, where he stalled for several hours.

Has anyone pointed out to the subbers yet that in Saint Seiya, they make a mistake in the subs?

They make errors ever now and again but there's no point in telling them really. It's hard subbed because they don't think people who watch their subs are smart enough to google how to get soft subs to work so instead of just releasing an updated sub file they'd have to do a whole new video file.

It's more in line with the whole SA idea of accessibility, same as with the translations. Anyone can download an episode of the show and watch it, even without prior knowledge of subs or japanese culture.

But with that accessibility comes inconvenience. There's the previously mentioned issue as well as sometimes having the screen tear or whatever you'd call it. That's not really worth saving people 3 minutes googling how to get subs to work since it makes sub patches essentially out of the question and lowers the overall quality of what they're releasing.

While I don't doubt that *you* wouldn't have problems, a full 75% of the comments on bakabt are questions about getting subs to work, or complaints about subs. You can't win either way, at least with hard subs the issue is preemptively settled and the subbers can work on other projects instead of troubleshooting software. The occasional error is really no big deal, I notice small things all the time with my limited Japanese. What annoys me the most is the use of English terms for stuff like enemy names when the Japanese is clearly spoken, but at least they've been consistent with this.
