Favorite retro games you don't see mentioned here often.
Name yours, and make a recommendation based on the favorites of others, and WHY.

>Robotron
>Qix
>Spider Fighter

All three are really quick, tense, twitchy arcadey games, with different gameplay, but the same flavor.

I love qix. I used to play it in browser in typing class in Jr high.

Have you played berserk?

Robotron is like sex

It's a lot of fun but I can't last more than 30 seconds

>>2343958
Like sex, I also find it enjoyable with two players. You should try it. The other one steers and the other one shoots.

I know some guys who played the thing like junkies back in the day. Both can get 1.6 million pretty easily. I envy them as role models.

Berzerk is fucking stellar. Anyone who likes Robotron should try it as well.

The story of Robotron was depressing as fuck

This, really underrated N64 game. Enjoyed the shit out of it. I think I was at level ~160 before my fucking save got deleted because 3rd party memory cards and no batteries in the cart cause ???

>Ogre Battle 64

It gets brought up every now and then, but there's no dedicated threads to it. I think what really hurts it is the combat is very simple when you get rolling, it's easy to make very powerful units since you don't need to spread out the experience very much (Partially because there's not that many enemy units, healers ensure you'll never die, and you're limited to 8-10 units out at once). Shame too because the customization and story are really good.

Even better/worse is how the sequel, Blaster, states that robots successfully killed everyone by 2085. You play as the last human, running for the Paradise planet.

200~250 levels I think. It is damn good, but the arcade game is still the best.

I've seen a setup that swapped out the twin sticks for double 8-button arrays. It looked insane.

>>2343978
That would be even more insane.
I didn't get a chance to play it though.

What's appealing about this? Seems like it's akin to playing Robotron with keyboard WASDIJKL, which is horrible.

I did that with my gf

I mean playing Robotron 64

Although I did have sex with her too now that I think about it

>>2346514
Well does everything work out for the last dude?

>> No.2348542

>>2348325
Well, you only get four buttons per side with a WASD setup, so diagonals are less precise. Dual 8 button sounds perfect, assuming you have eight fingers on each hand.

From that period Joust and Tempest are also god tier

North by North West is a movie and North by South West is fucking nothing. What are you smoking?

2349082

yes it's technically not a tetris game at all
yes, it's a game nintendo just had sitting around and just stuck the tetris name on it in hopes of making a few more bucks
does that mean it's a bad game?
despite what some people here like to say, no

>> No.2349084

>>2349082
also, it's a lot more fun than the tedious mess that is Tetris 2, the official sequel.
