What are the most durable game controllers that you've ever owned?

>> No.2339484

I have a JLW-TM-8 for nearly 10 years now but i wouldn't call that durable as i done regulars maintenance and customization on it.

The only thing that ever killed a NES controller for me was dropping it in coffe which made some insulation stuff in the electrodes dissolve. It was still working after cleaning it tho, but with occasoinal electric shocks from the back side.

>> No.2339547

NES and Genesis controllers, due to the fact that they only had d-pad and face buttons. No shoulder buttons that can break and cave in. No analogue sticks to wear out

>> No.2339552

I think you cannot find any easier to break controllers than n64.

I remember d-pads in both NES and Mega Drive controllers being prone to either stiffening or loosening, somehow arbitrarily per unit. Nothing as bad as the Master System ones, though.

The original Dual Shock is the one for me. Compact, comfortable to hold, perfect button layout, can't kill a man with it like with the N64's. I still use the very first one I bought for emulators.
The only problem is the gel covering of the sticks, which will probably start peeling away after a decade or so.

The SNES and Genesis d-pads getting "loose" is actually a pro. They're still as precise as the first day, except more comfortable to use.

I think I'd go for Sega Saturn though, perfect controller, and perfectly durable, too (model 2).

SNES and Genesis (model 2) are also among my favorites.

>>2339776

Do you use the same keyboard since the 90s? Shit, I have to change mine every 2 years or so.

When I used official controllers, they lasted for a day, until they shocked me and stopped working. The third party controllers, on the other hand, worked like a charm, and have never broken on me.

Though it's annoying when snes shoulder buttons get loose. It makes playing starfox more difficult for the wrong reasons.

That's because you use shitty gaming keyboards.

I have an old Canon PC keyboard from the early 90's that can take everything short of a nuclear blast.

>> No.2340012

The gamecube controllers always felt very good, of all the consoles I played as a kid, I think that was the only console I never had to replace the controllers to. Despite what people thought about the gamecube, I always at least thought it was a very well built system in terms of hardware, plus the controller just felt really good in your hands.

Srsly? I broke 3 of those in 4 years, though they were the ones with the autofire switch if that makes a difference. And i might have had Chinese knockoffs, though they looked identical.

Apart from my fighting stick, I'd say the older, the sturdier. My Atari 2600 & NES controllers still work wonderfully, but from PSX on they tend to just break after some time.

Giving a shout-out to NES controllers. I remember being six and actually biting down on the cords in fits of rage. Those same controllers are till working fine to this day.

Mine got submerged in muddy flood waters for a day or so and I just opened it up and cleaned everything then let it dry out and it still works good as new. My Dualshocks didn't fare as well though.

I've owned and put significant use into every major console. The majority of my original controllers still work acceptably with these exceptions

>2600 controllers lose their rubber sleeves and then don't center right
>5200 controllers are total shit and require constant babying to keep operational
>SNES controllers get rattly loose eventually but still work
>Analog sticks in general break fairly easily but N64 analog sticks actually wear out

I don't think I've ever had a NES, Genesis or digital Playstation controller give out on me despite being the consoles I dumped the most amount of time into of all time.

The only complaint is the rubber is starting to wear off of the analog sticks ever so slightly.

>> No.2343204

>>2343184
that's a fucking joke though

I saw that happening with one of my friend's PS4 controllers.

It hasn't happened to mine but I hardly play it (don't have Bloodborne yet).

In fairness, my friend even managed to fuck up the rubber on his DS3 controllers and that never happened to me so hopefully this won't... but we'll see.

Sony still fucked up by using that gay ass rubber though. The XBone analog is truly god tier. 360 controller is still my favourite, excluding the shitty DPad. If they didn't fuck up the 360's DPad it would hands down be the greatest controller ever made imo.

PS4 controllers just have this build quality that just shits all over all the previous iterations.

All my DS3's and PS4 controllers are in good shape, I haven't noticed a lot of wear, but I do have ~2-4 controllers on PS3 that I cycle through since the battery life is shit, I swap my "main" controller every play session to charge and pick up another one so my wear on those is probably less.

PS4 I have like ~70 hours clocked on 1 controller (I bought a second for swapping out, but the battery life is really good on a ps4 controller) and theres no signs of wear on the rubber.

Through trades and shit I usually get people trying to give me PS3 controllers and you should see the abysmal condition some of them are in. Its disgusting. I sold 2 on eBay the other day that look like they were fucking raped.

Maybe i was just a heavy-handed kid but i remember going through several of them.
Not that i outright damaged them, but the D-pad or A/B buttons would eventually get stiff as hell and stop responding to being pressed.
