See, the problem is that in this day and age, virtually anyone can go and write a book about something and publish it online.
The fact is that in many cases the author itself doesn't really know what he's talking about, and many of his resources comes from the internet and questionable sources, people that want to know something about the ps1 and have no prior knowledge of it or experience with it, can be damaged by this kind of thing.

Honestly if I saw that just out of the blue I'd think it was a little thing about the PSX rather than the PS1.

>I made this book because I had time off work, cause anxiety, and I had to do something to not go mental. So i made a book, calling it The Complete NES Guide, consisting of every NES game ever released among other things. Pretty much the same as this book. After that i made several other book in the same vein, from TMNT toys to Point and Click games. I like to catalog and categorize stuff, like all the comic I buy, I put in excel lists and every game I own I do the same. I always wanted to make a book consisting of every PSX games released, but was a little taken back cause the scale of the PSX library. But, I thought if I just made the book in several smaller, it would be more manageable. So, the book grew and grew into this monstrosity.

>I made this book for myself as as a fan of the Sony Playstation. I have tried to make the book well presented and easy to look through. Although spelling errors are present, try to look past it and don`t get to hung up on them. I suck at grammar, i know:(

Here are posts from arstechnica back in 1999.
But why are so many people saying PSX back in 1999 before the PS2 came out. I wonder why... It must be because they realized the PS2 was coming out and people would look shit up on the internet so instead of naturally saying a common and natural phrase identified with the playstation, they'd say PSX so future generations of asshole could be right that no one actually said. Thereby proving themselves masters of time as well proving that they were hipsters using the term long before it came into general usage, because it wasn't ever used in before the PS2 was released, ever.

the PSOne is a very 1998/1999/2000 era design, and it shows, it fits solidly with what was in style at the time

I personally like it, but it's easy to dislike, and it's definitely not up to par with the original PlayStation design.
That was an odd time for product design in general, not sleek like after it and not bold like before it, it was this awkward transitional period. Even great designs like the Dreamcast from that period have a certain odd sort of rounding to it.

Stop shitposting and use that, I hate meta posting more than anything else and you're all driving me to do it right now. Complaining here isn't going to make any change and I hope complaining via feedback won't either, what you should do instead is learn how to ignore threads and posts you don't like and instead create threads/post of high quality if you actually want discussion. Don't you realize how dumb it is to post "nobody posts about what I want to talk about" when you obviously have the freedom to start the discussion yourself somewhere.

Ex-Sony founder here. (1908-1997)
Internally we called it the PSX, this was due to the fact we had a roadmap, if the product was successful we were to release several iterations and revisions of the home console. It went well enough to warrant another revision and development had started on the model 2 (PS2), I'm not really sure what happened to that version though.

This also goes for NES clones like pegasus and different versions of SNES called Super Nintendo or Super Famicom etc.. the external design DO matter. The PSone was also released when the console was in decline, like a last attempt to milk the cash cow, and it's design does in no way represent the culture of the PlayStation era, when the battle between Nintendo and SEGA was suddenly ended by Sony beating them both. The grey box design was what united gamers of both camps, the white slim one represents something else.

I already did that when he was alive. Apparently, the real falling out between Nintendo and Sony was nothing to do with Nintendo's lack of faith in the CD format, it was because Miyamoto had sex with Ibuka's childhood friend. The rest was just a coverup, Nintendo didn't even want to use cartridges for the N64, but they were forced to because Ibuka refused to licence out CDs to them, back when Sony basically controlled the market.

But we're not talking about THAT point in time, we're talking about 1995-2000, when it was absolutely referred to, on an ongoing basis for years, as PSX. There's mountains of physical and anecdotal evidence to support this, how can anyone even argue otherwise?

Ah, the "NUH UH THAT NEVER HAPPENED!" defense.

Yes, it did happen. I don't give a shit what you want to call it these days, PS1 is probably now the clearest shorthand for it, but when it was still the current gen, a lot of people called it the PSX way before the PS2 was even a notion and there's obviously evidence of this. No amount of No True Scotsman fallacies are going to undo something that happened.

On an anecdotal tack, a number of people I spoke to back in the day referred to it as PSX so as not to confuse it with PS (for post-script). In those days (and a little still), it was fairly common for people to say shit like "PS Spice Girls suck ass" at the end of an argument, in reference to the actual group and not pic related (which could be "PSX Spice Girls sucks ass.")

Considering it was called that first internally then leaked out slowly it only makes sense that the name would remain considering how close it is to "PS" and "PS" by itself is a little ambiguous.

Things like Ultra64 didn't catch on because N64 is not ambiguous, Ultra64 is not shorter to type and U64 makes no sense, not to mention it's highly likely that Nintendo demanded people call it the N64 in publications post release, they also had their own line of magazines and advertisements which would use the official name.

The PlayStation was always the PlayStation. PS, PSX, and PS1 are just abbreviations for that and not a separate name entirely.

It was never PS1, because the name of the console didn't have a number in it.
