What's the "proper" way to put away controllers?

Wrapping the wire like that is a bad idea. Can put stress on it if you wrap it too tightly.
Better to just wrap the wire in a loop and use something to tie it. Velcro, rubber band, etc. Then just put it somewhere it wont get dusty.

Cables sometimes have a "memory", which is their tendency to coil a certain way after sitting in a warehouse of who knows how long. As a rule of thumb, you don't want to fight against that memory as it could potentially damage the internal wiring. Now I know controller cords don't tend to have memory, at least not to an extreme degree. Or maybe it's just a straight cord after years of being uncoiled. I can tell you that you don't want to coil them tight like OP's picture. Ideally you coiled them in a somewhat lose circle, like with this XLR cable.

Plenty of good, honorable reasons, none of which you would accept because you are close minded and incapable of accepting things that aren't the way you do them.

Just wrap it around the controller and hold two fingers right at the base so it won't stress.

It's best to coil it. You don't want to wrap it around anything because copper isn't very strong when it's stranded, stress can cause opens in the cabling.

if you have some bread ties, use them to keep the coil together.

This.
See how it was originally arranged when you first got it, and repeat it.

Also, if you're using any strength at all, you're doing it wrong.

straighten your controller wire as far as you are able, put your controller into a hallway if you must. If there isn't enough room in any part of your home move.

Protip: The outside of the wires are made of stretchy rubber. The inside of the wires are not.
The inside of the wires are made of metal.

If you wrap wires as tightly as possible or in a way that is against the grain, they can break overtime.

As a video guy, I'm a bit obsessive about winding cables. May or may not be useful for game cords. Cool thing about this is you can just toss the cable out, and it'll have no twists.

Might seem kind of complicated in the video, even I'm looking at it and it looks a little confusing.

But I admit my N64 controllers I usually wind it like the OP pic.

I have 4 SNES controllers that I have wrapped like op for their whole lifetime but are perfect and loose after a few minutes of playing. I have megadrive controllers but their wires are really hard and set in their bends. Anyone else find this?

I have a bag, or a sack rather in which I simply stove away any extra unused or broken controllers. There's like 12-15 of them inside at any given time.
Sometimes I just take a few of them out and take turns holding each in hand.

First I don't give a shit what you do to your controller. Someone who's not a fucking idiot isn't going to yank a cord. That's basic shit. But I guess that makes me an expert of the subject according to you.

See what I mean? Acting elitist because he doesn't do what a majority of the gaming does and spreads bullshit rumors about it harming the controller. I bet you were one of those kids who screamed at people for enjoying their movies in fullscreen instead of widescreen back in 2002.

Still projecting.

>because he doesn't do what a majority of the gaming does
What? Every controller I have bought didn't come wrapped like in OP's pic. It was in a loop.

The manuals say not to yank the cord too. But you seem like a really fucking idiot. Probably never read them.
Must make me an expert because I can read a manual huh?
