So much potential is just sitting here it drives me fucking mad that there isn't a modern take on Turok 1 & 2

WHY NOT

>> No.2311481

>WHY NOT
In case you didn't know, Turok was rebooted in the year 2008 and it was a massive blunder it killed the publisher.

And besides, if you take a different perspective and point of view, Turok always borrowed stuff from other popular FPS series
Quake->Turok:Dino Hunter
Goldeneye->Turok 2:Seeds of Evil
Unreal Tournament->Turok: Rage Wars
Half-Life->Turok 3:Shadow of Oblivion
Halo->Turok:Evolution [Note: There was no regenerating shields on Turok:Evolution but there were vehicle sections iirc]
Call of Duty->Turok '08

>> No.2311491

>>2311481
And also, here's one last thing about Turok's potential

Turok's formula was always like this
Your Native-american like protagonist
His starting Tek bow + explosive arrows[there were more arrow types on Turok:Evolution]
Your enemies that at first are Dinosaurs & Hunters to Cultists and big insects to Insectoids and Hunters riding big dinosaurs with cannons to Aliens and Cyborgs[Cyber-enchanced Dinosaurs included]
A Final weapon assembled by pikcing pieces placed on secret areas
And Badass Music [ example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BabSgX8J1eo ]

Turok hasn't aged well. inb4 autism.

I liked the games as a kid somewhat but I feel no reason to play them now in 2015. Even as a kid though Turok 2 felt bad to me. Its movement was so goddamn slow and clunky, enemies weren't interesting and gunplay felt crappy, too. The weapons themselves were cool and had some interesting effects, if not a little gimmicky (cerebral bore), but the actual gunplay itself was pretty meh. On the plus side the world looked beautiful for N64 standards and the level design could be really interesting; both in terms of layout and aesthetic, which had really awesome variety.

I preferred the first game to the second.

the PC version of this game, specifically Turok 2, actually fully holds it's own when compared to similar contemporary games of that time. By no means does it surpass, but it's still pretty damn fun. the production quality of the enemies, how they behave and the sound effects is phenomenal.

The sound of the dinosoid arm-blaster thing is etched into my memory, and the way they run around, toss those little nades' and do those melee combos. fucking cool stuff.

lots of interactivity with the enemies in terms of both injury and death...there honestly isn't a whole lot of games that do the things you see in Turok 2 and it's too damn bad.

Turok 2 is one of my favorite games, but there was a huge drop off in quality about halfway through. The first few levels are amazing and fun to explore, but the last few are maze-like and confusing. Having to backtrack to find all the Primagen keys was also a pain.
