So /vr/, which do you prefer? The originals or these?

I felt that even though it's "prettier", Super Mario Bros. and the lost levels just feel smoother on NES. However I just like SMB 2 and 3 better on SNES.

I like them both. The remakes are really well done and All-Stars is a great package, a SNES essential. I don't care that the physics in the first game are slightly different.

Originals. The controls in All Stars feel off.

Dude, don't pull an only-autists-care on that one. The mechanics weren't just a bit off in the remake of SMB1; it actually removes the brick break kickback, which is a pretty major change. There's nothing of the kind in 2 or 3, though, so if you're not a glitch-exploiting esper you probably won't notice any real difference gameplay-wise; it's a matter of which visuals and sound set you find more appealing (at least they're not crammed with abrasive Mariospeak, like the GBA re-remakes)

He didn't say anything about autists.

Actually no it wasn't exactly removed. It was a bug that reversed the kickback, pulling you up to a brick instead of down. There is a patch that fixes this, but apparently it fucks up with modern emus/flashcarts. Which is odd because it's nothing more than a simple X to Y thing.

I think I must be the only schmuck in all of /vr/ that gives no fucks about Mario.

Nah, Mario is just as entry-level as you can get, and /vr/ is predominantly entry-level these days.

Now I feel slightly less weird about liking Little Samson 10x better. Thanks!

Far from it.

Patch works fine from what I've seen. If it ends up wonky you could always assemble the code yourself.

>remakes
They're ports. SMB1 and LL had a bug introduced, and 3 had some map changes, but they're ports. And the GBA versions are just ports of ports.

They're remakes. :^)

Ignore him, he's the same asshole who by the looks of it goes around to every thread splitting hairs about this. He's one of our many oh-so-delightful regulars.

I prefer All Stars + World out of convenience, nothing beats having all the games in a single cartridge. However SMB1 and Lost Levels do suffer from that physics glitch. I mean SMB is a breeze to play in the NES, but feels really sluggish in All Stars. Personally I find them kinda unplayable in comparison. Deluxe is where it's at for SMB. For 2 and 3 I'm happy with the All Stars versions. They look better, they sound just as good and they play the same.

I like LL, 2, and 3 on All-Stars, but not 1. The music and graphics in 1 just don't appeal to me and the mechanics are too different. I don't mind the mechanics being different in LL though because I haven't played the original Japanese version. It feels like a different game to me and I'm not expecting 1/LL mechanics in it.

All stars is great. Way better than the originals.
