They were also fighting 20 feet above the ground but fell infinitely during that sequence

Is SMRPG really that great? I never played it but I hear its better than Paper Mario. I'd probably get in on the virtual console since the emulation there is fantastic.

In the first situation, the chandelier bowser is on is higher, in the second, it's lower.

Because the game takes place inside of a faux 3-Dimensional world represented in 2 Dimensions, Mario looking towards the back of the screen tends to represent looking up, while Mario looking toward the front of the screen tends to represent looking down.

>Is SMRPG really that great?
It's wonderful. Basic but wonderful.

>I hear its better than Paper Mario
It's arguable. They're pretty different. Paper Mario has better mechanics and story, SMRPG is endearingly strange. Both have amazing aesthetics, and yes fuck you the pre-rendered 3D looks great even to this day.

SMRPG really set the tone for all the Mario RPGs that came after it. It made Bowser into a lovable underdog, and all of the goofy lighthearted humour is there.

You should play it

Because there's no perspective with isometric projection, and therefore it's basically impossible to distinguish depth and altitude.

Fuck isometric. fucking bullshit

The 3D world isn't trickery, it's actually pre-rendered. So it's not like polygons n shit, but it is 3D.

Yeah, and paintings all have real people trapped on the canvas, they are just pre-rendered and shit.

>It made Bowser into a lovable underdog, and all of the goofy lighthearted humour is there.
It also made him a strict yet benevolent boss for his underlings which helps to explain why they always stick to him despite his bad temper and constant fuckups.

Prerendered 3D sprites age better than actual early 3D, IMO.

>> No.2277790

>>2277592
Absolutely. SMRPG is a better looking game than any Mario game on the N64, and Donkey Kong Country looks better than DK64.

Maybe because most prerenders are ray traced from clay models. Even nowadays it's still made this way.
