During development the original Playstation was known as Playstation X (X standing for either eXperimental or eXpansion depending on your source) but for some reason Sony dropped the X before the system was released. However gaming journalists at the time (gaming magazines in particular) kept using the acronym PSX and most gamers also kept using it on internets all the way up to the time Playstation 2 and PSOne, the new resigned version of the original Playstation came out. At this point the acronyms and their meaning were crystal clear to everyone: PSX meant the original grey version of the original Playstation and the new smaller redesign of it was referred as PS1.
Yes, there was another box called PSX in Japan. No one bought it and it wasn't and still isn't anyway relevant to the rest of the world except for underage shitposters on internet forums.
tl;dr: Go fuck yourself, kid.

Also, although I agree that we should not change the "correct" way of naming things, if we do not educate newfags properly by guiding them to the right information they will only grow worse as they are not competent enough to use the internet.

Being an oldfag means being for long on this site, it is totally unrelated to your age.

PSX is the actual prototype name for the first Playstation, a simple hex editor on the BIOS ROM and games' executable files reveals this.

I personally use PS1 when shortening the name, but I'm nobody to demonize another guy calling it "PSX", as it was its more established unofficial name.

Let me say the same thing with different words, in two different variations for your easier comprehension:

1) Graphics sucks, which is why I can't stand it anymore

2) It's aged like shit, which is why I won't play it anymore.

Enough hyperbole for the sake of sounding grand on an anonymous board (lol?)

Is this enough "corruption by the actual gen", whatever that means in context to the game described?

Have you even played the game and/or have at least a tiny grasp of where not only its graphics but everything else too, stand in the franchise?

It's like Shitposting 101 all over again.

SO much fucking shit posting on this board these days.

When it's not refugees from /v/ who think every board is for shit posting and arguing, it's either trolls from /v/ or butthurt (OCD riddled) regular old /vr/ posters being assholes because all they want to do is talk about Doom, old PC games in general, SNES and Saturn games all fucking day...

Well, fuck all of you. If you don't like the rules here, then go the fuck back to /v/ and lets see how long you last there!

Not you though OP. PSX was an amazing console, and still has the best games ever made of several genres.

The first PSX games I ever played were Nightmare Creatures and Jet Moto 2. Both still hold a place in my heart, though I feel like Jet Moto 2 aged a lot better. Mainly because nothing like it exists now.

Nightmare Creatures is a unique horror/hack n slash game, and I like the combo and upgrade systems. It's sort of herky-jerky to play (was then too, actually), but I feel like without it, every single hack n slash now would have been a brainless button masher like Onimusha.
Though for that mater, most of them are...
Oh well!

If I had to pick a top 10 list for the PSX, it would be:

>Resident Evil 2
>Parasite Eve
>Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
>Crash Bandicoot 2
>Tekken 3
>Twisted Metal 2
>Brave Fencer Musashi
>Final Fantasy VII
>Tomb Raider (1)
>Megaman X4

Yes, I'm sort of casual, but whatever. That shit's still great. All still very playable today (unless you're a mustard "MUH FRAME RATE!!!!" faggot, or just too fucking stupid to use simple, PSX era "tank" controls)

Once again though: Fuck you to all the shit posters in this thread. You all deserve to die and I genuinely hope you all do.
