I just had Viconia feed Korgan's body to spiders in the Underdark. Who should I replace him with? Hexxat?

>> No.2221169

Generally, when we want to talk about BG2, we fake it by creating a BG1 thread. BG2 isn't a retro-title. And the Enhanced Edition is especially not retro.

Solid autism there buddy.

What class should I play in BG1
I'm planning to go with canon party since I'm playing it properly for the first time
I figure a cleric

Canon party allows you to play pretty much anything really. I went with thief on my first game.

Oh come the fuck on.
The 6th generation is already 15 years old, how the fuck is it not considered retro yet?
It's not like 6th gen titles still get healthy theads on /v/, bar a few games

Now that I think about it, a thief is better from a roleplay perspective as you take a bunch of shit from people's drawers anyway.
Well, I guess that goes for most RPGs.

If you're going for a canon party, then your main character should be a fighter if we follow the books. I "cheated" a bit since I played Tutu and made mine a Kensai. Also played with original party, at the very least in the end of the game.

I'm not THAT autistic, besides I hear the books are terrible.
I simply wanted to play the way BG2 assumes you played.

Here's what I've come up with. I think this is a pretty good roll, honestly I'm tired of creating characters, I'll just dive into the game.

Why not be a fighter/cleric?

Heal n smite!

Yeah, the BG books are probably even worse than those terrible SD Perry Resident Evil novels.

>> No.2221785

Honestly? I want to level quicker, with multiclasses it seems it would take an age.
And aren't Clerics supposed to be half-fighters anyway? Maybe this is one of those second edition things. Oh well...

>> No.2221796

>>2221774
Wait.
Worse that Perr's. Worse. Than those fucking books.
How do you even do that? How do you go lower than black'n'white morality Mary Sue Gary Stu carnival?

>> No.2221805

>>2221169
No, we don't. We just make BG2 threads, and then you cry hopelessly about it.

I have absolutely no idea, but yeah, somehow they managed to top those Perry RE books in terms of awfulness. Imagine latter-day Gary Gygax and SD Perry co-writing a D&D novel and you'll have a rough idea of just how crap they are.

Honestly though, they're worth reading for a laugh

Hello newfriend, welcome to /vr/! You may notice that we often disguise threads about games that came out a little after the 1999 cutoff with their earlier counterparts. Not to worry on being ignorant, you'll pick up as you go!

All Breath of Fire threads spend time on BoF 4 and 5, Legacy of Kain touches on the later series, Final Fantasies, Baldur's Gates, et cetera. The janitors are generally cool with it as long as you're not painfully obvious with your "Hey guys, what do you think of this 2013 rerelease of a 2000 title!?"

>> No.2221835

>>2221825
It's personal taste, really. When I was a kid, Drizzt do'Urden was the height of cool. As an adult, it's cringeworthy and awful. I find a lot of D&D fiction goes that way though, particularly in the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance.

>> No.2221841

>>2221825
No idea, sorry man, not really a D&D expert by any means. I remember liking some of those Gord the Rogue novels when I was a kid, but even when I re-read them as a teenager, I couldn't get over just how terrible they were.

>> No.2221863

>>2221835
I tried reading The Crystal Shard and it is really awfully cliche. I don't mind standard fantasy when it is done well but his writing is just too boring to make it work.

This part sticks in my mind:

>In this place he found his dreams, and ever they took him back to his ancient home. Mithril Hall, home of his fathers and their's before them, where rivers of the shining metal ran rich and deep and the hammers of dwarven smiths rang out in praise to Moradin and Dumathoin. Bruenor was merely an unbearded boy when his people had delved too deep into the bowels of the world and had been driven out by the dark things in dark holes. He was now the eldest surviving member of his small clan and the only one among them who had witnessed the treasures of Mithril Hall.

They had made their home in the rocky valley between the two northernmost of the three lakes long before any humans, other than the barbarians, had come to Icewind Dale. They were a poor remnant of what had once been a thriving dwarven society, a band of refugees beaten and broken by the loss of their homeland and heritage. They continued to dwindle in numbers, their elders dying as much of sadness as old age. Though the mining under the fields of the region was good, the dwarves seemed destined to fade away into oblivion.

You might as well say they were driven out by a dragon, dude.

>tired of creating characters

LOL
>implying that isn't one of the best aspects of the game.

I know I can't be the only one who would start a new game, make characters for hours at a time, rolling stats, writing out lengthy back stories, etc. Then play for a few levels, rinse and repeat. Seriously I probably started a new game and went through character creation in BG 1&2, IWD1&2 at least a hundred times

Holy shit, I just realized that Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition exists. I guess they're just doing all of the Infinity Engine games? They're almost at the best one.

What's the "best one?" You better not fucking say IWD2, because it wasn't.

Anyway, all the shit you get from the Enhanced Editions can be had with mods that have been available for years... except all the "NEW CHARACTER DO NOT STEAL" plotlines.

I've read pretty much all of the Drizzt stuff, and most of it is pretty shit, and some of it is downright awful. I justified reading it, by telling myself i was brushing up my english. Some of the Elminster books are alright i guess. Maybe the Clerical Quintet is good ?

^ Here's a blast from the past. I think at the time it might have even been considered novel to solo the game with a character other than F/M/T. By now people must have done it with every class and kit.

I used to own an original big box copy of BG2 but when I was younger I didn't care about collecting and just sold and traded almost everything I had.
