Generally, when we want to talk about BG2, we fake it by creating a BG1 thread. BG2 isn't a retro-title. And the Enhanced Edition is especially not retro.

If you're going for a canon party, then your main character should be a fighter if we follow the books. I "cheated" a bit since I played Tutu and made mine a Kensai. Also played with original party, at the very least in the end of the game.

I'm not THAT autistic, besides I hear the books are terrible.
I simply wanted to play the way BG2 assumes you played.

I have absolutely no idea, but yeah, somehow they managed to top those Perry RE books in terms of awfulness. Imagine latter-day Gary Gygax and SD Perry co-writing a D&D novel and you'll have a rough idea of just how crap they are.

All Breath of Fire threads spend time on BoF 4 and 5, Legacy of Kain touches on the later series, Final Fantasies, Baldur's Gates, et cetera. The janitors are generally cool with it as long as you're not painfully obvious with your "Hey guys, what do you think of this 2013 rerelease of a 2000 title!?"

It's personal taste, really. When I was a kid, Drizzt do'Urden was the height of cool. As an adult, it's cringeworthy and awful. I find a lot of D&D fiction goes that way though, particularly in the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance.

I tried reading The Crystal Shard and it is really awfully cliche. I don't mind standard fantasy when it is done well but his writing is just too boring to make it work.

This part sticks in my mind:

I know I can't be the only one who would start a new game, make characters for hours at a time, rolling stats, writing out lengthy back stories, etc. Then play for a few levels, rinse and repeat. Seriously I probably started a new game and went through character creation in BG 1&2, IWD1&2 at least a hundred times

Holy shit, I just realized that Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition exists. I guess they're just doing all of the Infinity Engine games? They're almost at the best one.

I've read pretty much all of the Drizzt stuff, and most of it is pretty shit, and some of it is downright awful. I justified reading it, by telling myself i was brushing up my english. Some of the Elminster books are alright i guess. Maybe the Clerical Quintet is good ?

^ Here's a blast from the past. I think at the time it might have even been considered novel to solo the game with a character other than F/M/T. By now people must have done it with every class and kit.

I used to own an original big box copy of BG2 but when I was younger I didn't care about collecting and just sold and traded almost everything I had.
